If the healthcare a person receives is determined by the money that they earn, that's a problem. I don't know the American healthcare system so I can't say if that's what's going on there. Even with a National Health Service it's sort of going on here so I can only assume it's more widespread in the US.
My point is that European people, and especially British people, like to get on their high horse about healthcare, particularly when discussing it with Americans - regardless of the fact that our system, while it appears just, is deeply flawed on a practical, day-to-day level. I worked for a subsidiary of the NHS for five years and any country that tries to model their system on ours is in for a very bumpy ride. |

Is it as deeply flawed as putting those who use it in crushing debt for generations? I don't think any health care reform, even from single-payer supporters, is seeking to achieve some utopian level of perfection, just one that isn't a financial shell game.

so do explain how it works everywhere else? shit people in BOTSWANA have UNIVERSAL health care while, many many Americans myself included have none. The only people who are not complaining about the health care system are those who live in privilege and have insurance of some variety that they are not struggling to pay for. But, all of those young Siddharthas will inevitably leave the comfort and security of the palace and see the real world of suffering and struggle..

We would never in a millions years plan to model our healthcare after yours. Your system is way too complicated to be implemented by our country. We're not actually doing healthcare reform, we're doing health insurance reform. The government is not going to run hospitals or anything |

You'd think so, wouldn't you? Quote:
Yeah sure, I don't really see why they don't make it an option. However, IT'S NOT A DONE DEAL. Why the fuck don't you call your senator and tell him that you want it to be an option? That's what he/she is there for. Don't just bitch on an internet forum, do something. Quote:
Its funny how people can get so worked up about one but not the other. Quote:
This is the best thing you've ever posted. Quote:
Yeah, how greeeeeeeedy of them to attempt to give healthcare to people other than the privileged classes. You anti-Obama people sure have a funny definition of greedy. Quote:
This is more beneficial for stuff like heart disease and cancer, obviously. And since you haven't been going to the doctor for anything other than STD tests, how would you know if you need either. In any case, why is it only about you? I never get sick either. In fact, I only stayed home from sick one time in High School. But I'm not the only person in the country and I believe that health care is a right that everyone should have. It's the OPPOSITE of greedy. Quote:
Sorry, that's stupid. And again, they don't do that shit when you have cancer or heart disease because you've avoided adequately taking care of your health your entire life. And the end of this quote is so mind-boggling... I really have nothing to say about it. Quote:
And just in general: people who don't tip are assholes. |

Shit... 15 pages in two days. Not reading all that, but I'm with Satan.
Furthermore, I don't see the correlation between having a job and being required to have health insurance. Health insurance, like car insurance and shit, should be handled by itself. People should go and get it if they want it. When I get sick, I relax and eat healthy. How do you think people survived hundreds of years ago? Plus, it's made my immune system a hell of a lot stronger. I hardly ever get sick because my body has learned to protect itself without fucking medicine. Just saying. |

I see you like most of us young folks, are ever the optimist. and what about routine things? dentist? kids being born? the occasional emergency? think ahead my friend! and go around the world or just around the block to see how people survived a hundred years ago without public healthcare, the same as folks survive today, not very well and not very long

In the Middle Ages, they also threw their shit in their drinking water. People who took care of themselves lived a lot longer, pal.

In America, we have the capability of taking care of ourselves. Health care should be an option.

That's off topic. Please, it's dumb to analyze a statement so thoroughly.
I've paid for plumbing... through renting my house and paying taxes that go toward sanitary facilities. I have nothing against paying taxes for that. What this thread is about is whether or not health care should be mandatory. I'm saying many people don't want it, so why force it upon us? That's it. |
