I listen to Makaveli the Don (from the LA only 16 bootlegs) daily like I straight read the Bible a Chapter a Day yo... there is no more fundamental artist who blends street, art, rap, gangs, drugs, sincere faith in God, activism, jewels, advocacy, apologetics, and just a fly groove like that particularly underground Makaveli which codifies the LA sound of that era. I am still stuck on that yo..

The legit album the Seven Day Theory revolutionized hip hop for the West Coast bringing that gothic edge which blew up even more in the Yay area where rap music got outright spooky between 1997-2003 before the Hyphy movement exploded. See E-40 the Element of Surprise or Dr DOOOM First Come First Served or the Luniz to see what I mean..

Nothing beats those Makaveli bootlegs though they are literally all that I own, I don't even got All Eyes on Me anymore..

Actually, no. And interestingly enough I was just bumping the Score ten minutes go and was thinking quite the opposite, how off her cadence was. She had good lyrical content, but she was a terrible rapper, hence why she went solo to be a singer. I do love me some Lauren Hill, but more so as a person and less so as a musician

My mind has just been split in two by this track. This was happening in the uk in 1991. Thats 1991. How in the name of fuck did i get by not knowing of this before today, how in the name of fuck is this not being played every single day on 1Extra?. One should only hyperventilate in text when ones mind has truly been blown, and this track is one of those special occasions. Fuck me.

yeah. I absolutely love The Score. one of those albums I know every word. But Miseducation never did anything for me. In general I feel like Fugees were a perfect balance. But split up, none of them could hold my attention that well. I'd say The Carnival came close. I liked that album quite a bit. But yeah. The Score is just insanely great.

I know what you mean, but I think we feel that way because at this point we are far more familiar with Lauryn Hill than we are with Lauryn and the Fugees.

Still, the Score was one of the albums that defined my late teens and I think it's one of the best albums of the 90s. Not top 10 best, but nobody who grew up in that decade would leave it out of the top 50. Nobody with any sense anyway. Even if its for nostalgia a sale alone, I will never forget that album. "ready or not," despite some embarrassing lyrics, is one of my favorite singles.

Incidentally, I get the urge to listen to "Ghetto Superstar" more than anything by Lauryn or the Fugees. I know that's bloody ridiculous, but the heart wants what the heart wants.

Wow, really? I was pretty impressed. I thought I'd grown tired of all things Doom, and I never really got into Born Like This (mostly, I'm sure, because I only listened to it once or twice) but I thought this was one of the best hip hop albums of the year. Of course, I've only heard about five

Oh I still put the Score as in the Top Ten albums of the 1990s, rap or otherwise, but as a composition, as a whole, not one track or artist in particular. There are strengths and weaknesses to that album, sometimes Lauren is a strength, sometimes a weakness, but I felt she was overrated on that album because female MCs were so rare in the mainstream (ok, well anywhere)..

I was bumping the Score again today, it was not just formative to my teenage years, but is still a crucial album, and is as relevant today as it was when it was first released..
