I am about 5 episodes into the 3rd True Detective, and indeed it is sad, tough stuff.
I think that people mis-read the intent of the True Detective series. I feel it shows "true" detectives, people who will not stop until they have answers, even though it destroys their "soul" (first True Detective), their "life" (second True Detective), and ther "family" (current True detective.)

Yeah, people do misread it. It’s supposed to be like “True Crime,” according to the showrunner. But I think there’s definitely a double-meaning there. That being, an inherent question of who, in each respective season, is the “true detective.” In S3, Purple’s wife is every bit the detective her husband is. And in season 2... well, I forget a lot about that season, but I still say it’s overrated. S3 followed a similar formula as S1, but with decidedly less compelling results. Still a damn good show. THERE ARE NO SPOILERS IN THIS POST! |

Finished Dead to Me on Netflix. Not the best thing ever, but I certainly did not hate it by any means. Was a pretty decent watch, actually. I would recommend.

There’s only one more episode? I just got halfway through ep. 3 of this season. Ep. 5 was last night. There are only 6 eps? That why each one is like an hour and a half? I’m going to go through GoT withdrawal when this is all over. |

don’t worry, the show itself is the cure for withdrawal
i think you’ll be more like “can’t wait till this is done!” which i am lolol it’s a bit of a rollercoaster really. i still like this show but at various points i have wanted to throw my shoe at the tv great spectacle though |

Me too.
The last 2 seasons have been wildly formulaic at times , settling for standard TV tropes instead of actual writing (due to it being written by producers and not G Martin anymore), but I have enjoyed the shows.

Ok, I’ve watched through episode 3 of Season 8 at this point, and I have to say I don’t really get where the hate is coming from. I mean, sure the writing has taken a dip. Sure the characters are less complex and the pacing is more TV than book, but it’s still such an amazingly crafted show. Like, Jesus Fucking Christ some of the cinematography is just mind blowing. It’s all GRRM’a fault for writing at a snail’s pace. The show had no right to do this well without source material to fall back on, and yet it’s done this well. So whatever. F the haters. |

/raises hand D&D are doucheclowns. Although I am willing to admit that might be unfair to state. I am interested to see what all comes out after the fact though, concerning negotiations, money, contracts, non-discolure agreements, etc... I think there is more behind-the-scenes fuckery than meets the eye. |

MILD SPOILERS (nothing really too detailed though)
Bleh, I started to respond but started writing a novel on my thoughts that would bore everyone. I will summarize and possibly elaborate more later. In short, I think the series was started with the best of intentions for everyone, but its takeoff success really changed the scope of the project for everyone. I think there were possible talks of book releases and spinoffs that drastically altered the course of this show years ago based on its success. I agree with what Rob said, that once the show surpassed source material it went from a great book adaptation to simply being a "television series." I think the show springboarded D&D a lot sooner and higher than they expected, and they have been ready to put this show behind them for awhile now. (D&D is how the cool kids refer to the show creators. I want to be a cool kid.) As far as things coming out that I am interested in, I found this to be quite interesting watch. Does it hold water? Is it the ramblings of a jaded actor? I don't know. But I will be curious to see what press about the books starts coming out, as well as press on the future HBO projects. I honestly don't know if I totally subscribe to this, but... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Feft...outu.be&t=1901 Plus the prequel series we are starting to hear about. I am really interested in what talks/negotiations have happened around it. I would not be surprised if HBO or Martin made D&D basically write off the WhiteWalkers and Brann with no deeper origin story resolution, so they could use that as a basis to continue their cash cow. Several articles have stated that this prequel series will delve more into their origin. And if that is not the case, well then the S08E3 resolution of them was just pure hot garbage writing, imo. (granted, we have 1 episode left, so maybe I will totally eat those words, but doubtful). Not to mention Martin's involvement in the prequel series. He is supposedly very involved. For the past several years he has been distancing himself from GOT show involvement under the guise of "needing more focus on his books." If that was truly the case, you sure as shit don't take on major responsibilities on a major spinoff series and eat up more of your time. I think the statement in the above vid is either factual, or we are never getting the next two books. Simple as that. Like said, we'll see. I am more entertained in the shit-show at this point than the show itself, and like said, I am really interested to see what all becomes of it after the fact. Well, I ended up writing a novel anyways. |

I hate how D&D are so fucking DUMB and lacking any actual vision for character and plotting. I hate hate HATE how they have to, (like all trope-filled TV shows written by dumb-dick harvard grads who have not actually lived any fucking REAL LIFE) have jamie Lanister not only remove his "disguise cowl" so the dumb-dick viewers that D&D are used to "realize" it is Jaime, but then he removes his leather glove so he can show the dumb dick viewers that it REALLY is Jaime! gold hand! That couldn't be Arya in disguise!
Fucking cheap stupid tv sitcom tropes..... There is SO MUCH I have hated in the last 3 seasons. SO MUCH, yet I have kept it within myself, for I still enjoy the dumbshit , non-thinking entertainment of the last 3 seasons. Seasons 1-5 were Shakespeare. Seasons 6-8 have been more Josh Whedon......

The last season of The Last Kingdom was infinitely better than this last season of GoT, even without the massive HBO budget. There is a guy (Last Kingdom -Uhtred, son of Uhtred) who KNOWS how to kill his lover.....

eh, thanks writing for the novel, it’s appreciated ah, yeah, i am not too aware of the source material. i once attempted the first book and just fucking hated the prose. grad school gave me a serious gluten intolerance when it comes to writing. it’s quite funny. maybe im just jaded. i can’t read anymore. something. tragedy i guess. anyway i was not aware of the people magazine type fodder but i did know that martin had spent some time refurbishing the jean cocteau theatre in santa fe (it’s a little arthouse movie that belongs to the state). i only know this because it’s local news for me, otherwise i would have had no idea. so all i have to go with are the tv shows. some episodes have been great, some have been annoying, but overall i keep watching for obvious reasons (i have stopped watching others shows: i am starting to become impatient, like i did with books ). so it still has my interest. **** SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS ALL THE WAY TO CURRENT EPISODE *** some of the things i’ve loved across the long arcs are arya, of course. bran is fucking boring. i get what he is. his story however, whatever. dumb fucking hodor ended up squeezing tears out of my face. holy fuck i am still sad for his timewarping megatrauma. the worst. bolton made me puke but they milked the porn gore too much. i hated the fucking septon! so much so i started rooting for that hot bitch cersei (the guy from brazil, you know the one. ) what else. too much stuff to count. it’s a whole fucking world. oh, khaleesi’s rise was great. khaleesi stuck in that pyramid or whatever was annoying. tyrion killing his dad i the shitter! hahahahaaaa. awesome. the hot dornian (dornish?) women left us too soon. and what ever happened to dr. bashir? i have forgotten. anyway, on to this final season: i did not mind episode 3 because i was fucking fed up of all the talky masturbation of episodes 1 and 2. i get it: some people feel the need to say goodbye to these characters they love so much. but holy mother of fuck all that fucking talk, and drinking by the fire, and reminiscing, and bullshit, oh my fucking god! so when the battle finally came i was grateful for whatever action they could dish out. also i loved what arya did with the walkers cuz i love arya. except seeing her in the sack was SO VERY FUCKING WRONG AND DISTURBING. she still looks 12 for fucks sakes. that was ewww. the battle tactics were horrid. i know i should not apply moronic logic to dramatic fiction, but they took it too far. too far! simply absurd. i know they had to set up the desperation for arya’s victory, but sweet lord, it was ridonc. could have been more intelligently fought so as not to insult the viewers. just saying. and again the same with ep 5, when they patched the game and nerfed the scorpions. wtf, what the.., just so fucking wrong. just arbitrary shit. and just the lack of intelligence on the part of every dumbass character lately. i hope varys left a ticking time bomb cuz he was the only smart person left except for arya. so. i forget what else. jamie walking up the stairs with 2 swords across his torso lmao. still felt bad for the 2 incestuous fuckers **** SPOILERS END ***** so yeah i am looking forward to the final show but at the same time i am very aware that there is little left to milk out of the drying that is this show. they’ve been pandering, it’s gotten repetitive, it’s the right time to put it to rest (hopefully with a bang). before it turns i to a cartoon, like “weeds” once did. lol, weeds. ok... |
