It was... it was... Long and slow, definitely. Oh, also extremely disappointing. I’d Have taken “Don’t Stop” and a blackout. |

Oh HEY HEY! Yes I agree about The Young Pope, and I was JUST bitching about how we’re still waiting for the sequel series — the New Pope — and did you see? There was a brief teaser for it before GoT finale!! All I saw was John Malkovic, which I found mildly disappointing. Hopefully they continue with the thread of Lenny’s papacy. |

so yeah midway through the show i was expecting the guy to be offed at the end (the possibility was often dangled) and the mention of “sequel” sure killed that tension lmao.
checked last night on imdb, the sequel is in post, so, likely this year. what’s the problem with malkovich? he’s fucking great. sure he’s always malkovich malkovich malkovich (haha, like the puppet film) but so? i trust sorrentino not to fuck it up. |

so i was running the leftovers all day while i did stuff because i was curious about the hype.
wasn’t a “keep your eyes on the tv” kind of show, it was more like a soap opera type thing with some suspense/mystery/horror mixed in. it did keep me curious enough to let it roll. but here’s the thing, i had to leave for a minute the room where the tv was is for a minute, i didn’t pause it, and when i walk back in there’s an old woman tied to a tree and someone is throwing fucking stones at her and another stone bashes her head and another stone bashes her head... that’s when i turned it off for good. nope, don’t need an explanation of the why and wherefore and bla bla bla. nope. i am done. feel free to dish out the spoilers because that will save me the trouble of the torture porn. i’m sticking to veep for the final stretch of my hbo days. |

Oh don't worry about that. Lindelof is not really into explaining red herrings in his writing, anyways. Sorry, Sev. I have tried to not talk shit on your love for this show, but that was too much of a softball not to swing. I guess consider this my "I don't get it, but happy for ya" in the opposite direction, ha. /respect I am just not a Lindelof fan, and I will leave it at that. Between Tony Hawk and GOT, I feel I haev been getting a bit too cynical on this board anyways... |

Wow. The last season of Veep is 20 times more depressing than the one scene you’re talking about. You later find out that the woman signed up for exactly that. Murder by stoning. It’s a part of the Guilty Remnant’s whole creepy deal. They kill their own members. I know it’s a rough season but JESUS H CHRIST are you missing out on some fantastic television. It never gets that brutal again, and that incident — though definitely depressing — does move the story along and is an essential part of it. You are missing the F out friend. Not just on a great show, but on excellent pop culture references, bonkers world-building and some tremendous performances and truly emotionally powerful shit. It’s goddamn glorious. I’m a little mad at you for bailing. |

What the fuck? It’s not a red herring. Or... well... maybe narratively, sure. But it’s essential to the story. The goddamn show is goddamn great any fuck you all for sitting through EIGHT SEASONS of GoT and not making it through three episodes of The Leftovers, which is exponentially better by every fucking metric imaginable. Middle fingers everywhere. Just... really disappointed in the lot of you. |

tldr; not my kind of writer. but justin theroux is good in it anyway veep is fucking hilarious. yes it has a cynical edge but the absurdity is greater jonah ryan in new hampshire lmfao |

Ha, I get it. I truly do. I have had this convo with a few other friends that do enjoy the show. They do say it's worth sticking out. Only a few though. And I am not talking that scene specifically when discussing his red herring writing style, just more of a generalized statement. I think he has been able to build a career out of this hack "keep them engaged" style, which I feel we are seeing more and more of lately. In fact, that is one of my main issues with where GOT ended. I really hate being strung along by "mysterious" elements only to have no resolution or payoff. It's cheap, bad writing, imo. Plain and simple. (Ugh, I went cynical again, and was going to leave it where it was, but I figured that much of an explanation was warranted.) Now, does that hold true for all of Leftovers? To be fair, I don't know, honestly. But that was my experience with the show. I watched the first season while it was being aired, week to week. I'll admit, I was engaged and intrigued as to why so much odd shit was happening. The story seemed to be building interestingly. Going into the season finale though, I literally said to myself, "If this mother-fucker answers 'why' to even TWO things he has thrown at me throughout the season, I might continue on." But he didn't. He truly did not. Just more cliffhanger red herring bullshit, so I wrote it off. I hate sitting on the edge of my seat only to have it pulled out from beneath me. Now that I can binge it, and based off some peoples' passion for it, I may go back and give the other two season's their fair share. Being that it is adapted from decently regarded source material does make me think it might resolve more than I expect. It will be hard for me to approach it again with an open mind though. The show did introduce me to Wolf Alice, whom I genuinely do enjoy. (flame on...) |

I’ll say this: the GREAT WHY of the show is never truly “answered” (Rapture? Energy disturbance or some shit? Etc.) but a lot of the mysteries surrounding that question are answered. It is.... oh my god... so satisfying And heartbreaking When you get to the last episode (and there are only 3 seasons, so it’s not hard to get there) WATCH IT GODDAMN YOUR EYEZ |

Hulk vs. Wolverine? Anyway, you’re missing out. Like, for real. If I could somehow force people to watch only THREE dramas from the past several years, The Leftovers would be my first and most important pick. |

boring people in a boring town dealing with issues in their usual boring way boring - seriously the only “interesting” thing is that people vanished with no explanation. the rest is just a bunch of american-style relijun which is the dumbest kind there is. ordinary dolts, disaffected teenagers, relationship soap operas, just... no man. no. sorry. shit’s weak. nothing original except an evangelically inspired premise with an xfiles twist. zzzzzzz |
