I bought a Vaio. it was a little more, but it has higher resolution, blue ray and internal bluetooth card.
I'm happy. this should last me a long time and weighs about 50lbs less than the Asus. |

arrrrgggg! ... and now that you know, I must kill you! On a serious note, since when is owning Apple products adhere to anything resembling fascism or even communism in any way more than owning Microsoft / Windows? As I said, I own them both / have used both for the last 10 years.... and Windows is all fine and dandy if you enjoy spending half your time with your PC just making it work right.

I've had both too? my last desktop was an iMac...that said... "spending half yr time"..."just to make it work right" is not only a hyper-exaggeration developed by macfiends, it's based on the fact that you spend "NO" time working on yr mac because you "can't". cracking the case voids applecare. and we all know that if you don't buy applecare....yr FUCKED. fucked isn't even the right word. it's kind of weird. it ran much better on the older craptop that I left behind, than it did on the slightly newer one that I took with me.
it's part of the reason that I'm typing to you on a new laptop. the inability to even get that to run properly almost made me toss the damn thing out the window. let me know when you might have time. I'll make sure that I reinstall it on the new one. |

toss off windows already.
get a nice stable *nix distro and compile a kernel optimized for your machine. i kid, for gaming unfortunately you better stick with windows. maybe in a few years, with opengl and all... |

But I don't do games... other than, say, solitare.

yeah, ubuntu got really popular.
personally i don't use it, the distro focus on offering the latest bells and whistles sometimes compromising stability. for me the good hippy stuff is debian (which ubuntu is based on), i like the stability the huge repository and the packaging tool, even though sometimes it's a bit frustating because of the long release cycles, but nothing a little compile-it-yourself won't solve. i've been using it for years. |

going from Windows to Macs and back again, i'm curious, and seriously, honestly, you don't have any hang-ups with Windows... or any between one or the other. I'm just getting my hands on a new Windows PC (running Windows 7) and so far all good, but I think that it's undeniable that most all of the improvements mostly in the aesthetics, have mimicked MAC OSX's... just a couple stupid little examples would be the new in-line programs icon bar (with transparency), and the emphasis on multiple window / multiple app running functions.... features of macs for the last decade or so. It's also trendy to knock on Apple Enthusist, but is it possible or even fathomable that people of all walks and professions all reach ridiculous levels of enthusiasm for their Apple products as a direct reflection of their level of satisfaction of their Apples? I don't see people flooding apple stores eager to rub their apple logo products in PC users faces, I see people enthusiastic about their products that have likely far exceeded their expectations and improved their PC'ing experiences.... is it all a prestigious charades they're faking to justify their investments over the more budget PC route.... i'd swear that's how y'all see it and explain it. Regarding the constant "making it work".... the most intolerable factor of this is about PC's, that they are undeniably vulnerable to an unimaginable amount and constant slew of viruses, spyware, adware, spam, trojan's, worms....etc. It's amusing how the Mac critics knock Apple users for them supporting the next communist regime, yet Windows devoties are about the most exploited bitches of any industry and technology in existence. Yeah, I'd recommend buying Applecare warranties.... but guess what, you're not spending $75-100 a year on preventive Virus software... and yet, you still have Hardware failure... so some sort of similar warranty is ideal too... you know you bought the silly warranty the laptop offers that you just bought.... so where's the sense in your knocking AppleCare? so... for people who like to constantly play with computers, pulling parts, running performance programs.... PC / Windows are a ton of fun. I work on computers professionally, and I have no time to be making shit work and running preventive apps, I'd choose a new profession if I had to work on PC's. all said, if and only if gaming is the feature use for turning it on.... like my son's, it's got to be a PC. I won't argue that, but if anyone wants to make themselves feel better off with Windows because the know jack shit about Macs other than they're more expensive and control their coding, and for good fucking reason (see three paragraphs up), you're only fooling yourselves.

I know plenty about apples. I also know plenty about pc's. I've been using both since the early 80's.
my job requires internet explorer (yeah...yikes) and I require complex video games. the mac did well for games made by blizzard, but there's a lot of games that it wouldn't run without bootcamp, and quite frankly, bootcamp defeats the purpose of a mac. I'm not trying to bag on you for liking macs (at all)[verme might be], but that said, I DO prefer the PC for their hardware flexability. there has NEVER -- not ONCE -- been a time in 30 years where I could NOT fix my PC. the imac, the iphone and all ithings have had to go back to the istore too many times not to bear a slight grudge. sure, they fixed it with a smile (they got extra money from me for applecare), but I am one of those weird people that LIKE to do things myself. just sayin'. |

Windows are nazis, they just force you into their shit, no options, pure coercion.. whereas Apple, they are fascists, they are ultra nationalists, they want to lure you in with the false security of community, family, nation, when in reality it is all just slick psychological marketing, and the company is as evil and cut-throat as its rival. Apple is just the fascist alternative to Bill Gates National Socialism..

word! I'll conclude my thing like this too, I think PC is pioneers for gaming, and add to that... for people who like to tweek shit: components, overclock, etc. I know people who are all about PC's but also spend 90% of their time on PC's digging into hardware and on constant conquest to make things run better. They are also always on campaigns to find and run the better anti spyware / virus apps to "reclaim" their PC's. Not a bad thing, but that about concludes their interest and passion for computers. I don't hate on this, but my criticism is in regards to interest vs. value. I can't spare the time to better myself with maintenance and tech stuff.... I appreciate those who do, because I always come calling sooner or later, but not for me. I run the slew of Adobe apps on one system and ProTools / Logic on another.... aside from email and internets, that's about it. Regarding gaming, with primary interest on gaming, I would HATE Macs (don't blame you there). I've bought a random game here and there, most inferior in what is required in specs.... and they still don't run adequately on Macs.... the one aspect that Macs fail on "Gaming". I have a gaming PC myself that I run through a "gefen" switch shared with my mac stuff when I want to use it (although I've recently removed it and gave the PC to a friend in need). As far as liking to fix-up yourself... I respect that... know plenty like that. No qualms from me, and in that case, PC is ideal. Mac are not at all intended to be self help oriented (agreed). the "do-it-yourself" avenue isn't valued by most people, so I don't think Apple is going the wrong direction.... consider yourself advanced. I'm am really curious though (I meant it), after running Mac OSX stuff, is there any impressions (good or bad) going back to Windows? ....because, that's what it's all about to me. You've got to admit, Apple's OS is far more intuitive and clean functioning and best laid out than Windows, eh? To me, Windows feels about 3-4 years behind at all times).

7 seems like a pale rip-off of X
mac os is highly superior in functionality and lack of bloatedness than windows has been (typically), but I don't mind 7 (so far) that said, I don't look forward to having to still fuck with defrags after all the install/uninstalling happens. THAT is the best thing about macs. when you delete something...that shit is GONE. I <4 deleting stuff. at heart, I will always be a pc gamer. there's too much that a console controller won't let you do, and so xbox will never replace that for me. while I used an imac, I had to drool wistfully over all the things I wanted to play (now and in the future). re: pc games// the new star wars MMO that comes out spring '11 looks HOT, but my girlfriend is hotter, and by the time it comes out, I'm not sure I'll have time for such silliness. so be it! |

.... see, that is cute and clever philosophies, it really is, except for the fact that you COMPLETELY under-mind the reality the Apple's building more stable hardware and software. It would be accurate if it were judged simply by one vs. the others marketing strategies... but you don't comment on the reality of eithers competence or flaws. Can I assume, aside from seeing a few Apple commercials and passing an Apple store, you actually know Jack shit about Apple's products, and OS? And could care less, especially if it needs to be explained, but I assure you, they don't come ANY MORE evil and cut-throat as Bill Gates.... ASSURED!
