do not punch the lead singer in the face (even if it's not intended).
people will point at you and glare. |

can't improve on that except maybe substitute the clause about not leaving the house for "just die a painful death, motherfucker" |

hey, I am 6'1 and I will stand wherever the FUCK I want. That being said, there are responsabilities that come with it if you are taller than those around you.
rules- 1-protect the shorter people around you from the flailing feet and bodies of the crowdsurfers. (this can be a bitch because as the tallest in a group of people you get your head hit first if you do not duck. It HURTS. 2-If you are near the front, and you have people between you and the stage barrier, you must try to keep those people from getting crushed by the surge of the crowd. 3- I second the rule saying, unless you have not heard the band's new material, do not play their music before the show! Go in fresh! 4-when someone is passing around a joint, please be quick and discreet in hitting it and passing it along. 5-If you are at a band's show just so you can complain about how much they suck, or how they used to be good but they suck NOW, or how they are old, then go the fuck home. GO HOME! 6-(I have seen this happen) If you are near the front and people are crowdsurfing, do NOT grab their feet and wrench their ankles. MOVE ASIDE if they are bothering you. --

if you play in another band and/or are famous, try to stand either as far back as you can from the band or as close as possible. it's THEIR gig, don't steal their show.

Don't be a friend of the band out to punish anyone who looks slightly bored by your mate's music. For as long as it's only a bored face, there should be peace amongst humans.

as an addendum to that: it's bad form to tell the guys selling t-shirts "yeah, I'm (with/work for/related to) [so & so]" in hopes of scoring free shit. if you get recognized by them, then cool. otherwise shut yr pie hole. |

if you work on the "inside" of the music business (work for the label, are a journalist, are a producer, etc.), blend the fuck in. no one is going to think you are cool because of your job, chances are, people will try to maim you if they figure out what you do for a living.

when you get your drink, you take a big first drink so you don't have to walk around the place with overflowing cups/glasses. likewise, cigarrettes are pointed YOUR way.
and don't leave that bottle/cup/glass over there, it's going to fall down. |

actually, it's gig etiquette to not buddy up with the merch guy, if it's not a question like "how much?" or "do you have it in x size?" then you don't ask the merch guy anything personal. the only exceptions are a) he/she starts a conversation with you or b) you actually know the merch guy by name and have seen him/her on the other side of the table. |

if you have to rely on yr mother to give you a ride to the show in her minivan, ask her to drop you off a block away so that you can walk to the line.
otherwise, you will be laughed at. (please note: this rule also applies to church busses) |

wrong & wrong & wrong. merch people are people not drones. treat them like persons, not vending machines. last animal collective show we went we bought practically the whole merch table & told him we lived in the sticks & had no access to record stores. he gave us a free baggie (valued at $15) so we could carry all our shit. btw, in this deerhoof show satomi herself was running the merch table before the show. how fucking cool is that? oh and @ les georges leningrad they were doing it themselves as well we hung out a bit they were awesome. so anyway... i Do see your point though when there are hordes of people though, gets overwhelming. |

when you go to see smaller bands, especially when they are on tour, PAY FOR YOUR FUCKING TICKET/DRINKS/MERCH; no matter how long you've been friends with anyone, if the band (or in specific cases, the promoter, bartender or merch guy) doesn't offer you to be on the guest list/free drinks/a promo of their album, you don't ask them for one yourself. support (real) indie bands.
(again, this one goes with what floatingslowly said above). |
