My appreciation of hiphop is very narrow, it's true; somewhere around 2 or 3 percent of what I have heard. Still a better ratio than Zydeco or Dancehall though!

i like sizzla's music a lot. i saw sizzla and luciano in the bahamas in '98. i did feel slightly uncomfortable during one of his black power songs, being one of six white people i counted at the concert, and also because there were two girls behind me who didn't appreciate my whiteness at all, but i was with a couple people who were there to hold my hand when a gunfight broke out. being high as a kite and paranoid didn't help the situation much. aside from all the drama, they were great performers. praise ye jah is a great album but i probably won't be going to any live performances anytime in the near future.

Tystion were/ are fucking ace. Couldn't understand a word of it.
I have a few videos of the burgeoning Swansea hip-hop scene in the mid-90's. It's utterly crap, but highly amusing. I think Luke Buttredger might have been south Wales. They were moderately amusing as well. I'm pretty sure GLC are from those parts, but they're certainly not worth mentioning. It's all about Datblygu and Llybyr Llaethog round here though.

Racing thru 47 (count 'em) ragga, bashment and dancehall tracks from 2006 / 07. Plenty of elephant man, busy signal, mr vegas and aidonia amongst others. Major riddims represented are theNookie, Dem time deh, Stage show, Buh buh lups (I aint even make this up), Vagina, Old truck, Gully slime and the particularly babylon levelling extraordinary rendition, theBad Belly. This music keeps supplying the rhythm, sex, dumb choruses, comical homophobia, silly noises and humour lacking elsewhere in the often sterile contemporary musical moonscape. Or maybe that's just me. Take a chance. Right click HERE and 'Save as...' http://www.spymania.com/pgs/dancehall3.html Nice little mix. |

i hate everything about m.i.a.
i don't own any dancehall records but i like to listen to it every once in a while, like when mtv soul or whatever that channel is called puts on jamaican shit. i don't listen to the lyrics at all, don't know what they are talking about and from the videos and beats, i'm assuming it's about spanking some booty. i wouldn't support dancehall because of their racist and/or homophobic stances, but that doesn't mean i don't like listening to it every once in a while. and yeah, the only bob marley that's any good is his work with lee perry. |

I don't like MIA either, but I think this song is great. Bird Flu is OK as well.

i've only heard about 2 minutes of reggaeton but it sounded awful, i bought a baile funk mixtape a year or two ago and that sucked big time.
i don't get why everyone was talking about those styles a couple of years ago. |

because reggaeton is huge with latino people, really huge. people here just love to crank it on their car stereos and play it on parties and danceclubs, and this is just one country out of latinamerica. raggaeton gives me headaches, literally. |

i love reggaeton and dancehall and dubstep to dance to, i probably would nevet sit around wit headphones on listening to it, but dancing is fun, so dancehall is good.
the first time i heard sizzla was in john cardiel's skate part in the transworld video sight unseen, i loved it.
