i wonder if i started this thread just to argue.
"MARY-CHRIST" the track, does indeed fade. "MARY-CHRIST" the song, has a relatively proper ending and begins to (theoretically) segue into "Kool Thing". then, the segue fades before the proper 'Kool Thing' track starts. of course, the live and demo versions all do complete the segue without a fade. splitting hairs? sure i am! here comes another one... "I Know There's an Answer" doesn't count because it's a cover and they're emulating the fade on the original track.

Hm, Contre Le Sexisme. Arguably any track on Bad Moon Rising, but that's less of a fade and more of a segue.

i think 'sexisme' ends w/ kim's voice? and yes, those are more like segues, in that they are.

even if the end of mary-christ is technically a fade, the fact that it is the beginning of another song is strongly in opposition with the spirit of the fade imo.

Does Ciccone Youth count? If so, the Madonna cover - "Burnin' Up" -(Mike Watt) fades out I think.

It seems like there are songs on dirty and experimental that fade, but I don't listen to those albums very often, haha... but yeah I thought ANDRODGYNOUS MIND faded for some reason.

the transition b/w Mary Christ and Kool Thing on the Goo LP always seemed awkward to me, why do it that way at all? Would have been better to segue w/ continuous sound throughout. Probably did it cuz Kool Thing was the big single at the time. I don't listen to Goo that much these days. I forget whether the demo versions have a fade or segue there, or if those tracks are even adjacent. Fade outs do seem awkward, but I really like creative use of the fade: like Helter Skelter fading in and out b/w different sections of the jam, and I think I am the Walrus does that too. Beatles never had to play those live though. Hypothetically, playing a song w/ a fadeout live makes the band come up with something their fans havn't heard yet, which is always exciting if done well.

the transition from Mary to kool Thing was probably done because it was found on some obscure record.
the transition is loaded with comedy and is just a technical trick . Just like the endless loops on some records.

On the original Goo Demos release, Mary-Christ (aka "Animals") segues into Kool Thing (aka "DV2") and fades out, like the final album. On the remixed deluxe reissue, there's a segue (which they also reproduced live throughout 1990).

If the only qualifying candidate turns out to be the only song on all of the SY releases to not contain a single member of SY, let that prove my point, if I had one. Wait, does "Voice Piece for Soprano" fade??

Yeh, the only other, other song on an SY release that doesn't contain a member of the band. (I'm not as sure about this as I was about the fades, but I can't think of any other examples off the top of my head..)
