I think Scorsese makes films with a vocabulary that really doesn't appeal very much to me. I'll watch a Scorsese movie and say "the acting was good, the plot was good, the cinematography was good, but I didn't really feel anything or feel like I got anything out of it." Gangs of New York and Raging Bull both were like that for me. I liked the new one in that I did care about the characters and it was suspenseful, but I still felt pretty unaffected by it.

ha ha ha ha!! i laugh, sir. for you are out of your wazoo. spartacus? surely a piece of crap. however: barry lyndon? an underrated masterpiece without question. dr. strangelove? please, brother... that film is pure genius. i won't go on and on. but the only cinematic turd kubrick ever issued was spartacus, and the one to blame for that is kirk douglas, not kubrick-- the fucker messed with the script, the production, the editing, etc.-- hammy motherfucker! I'll give you Lolita (I hated every character in this movie), and I'll give you Spartacus, but Dr. Strangelove and A Clockwork Orange?
You're nuts. |

A clockwork orange may not have aged well (especially the beginning) but it's still a great movie.
The Kubrick movie that is overrated in my opinion is Eyes wide shut. |

dr strangelove is the greatest anti-war, anti-government movie ever made 2001 changed cinema forever. the shining is the best ghost movie ever. full metal jacket is, for the first hour, pure genius.

Lolita, Dr. Strangelove, 2001, and the Shining are among my faves. Paths of Glory is an incredibly underrated Kubrick movie. |

really? i thought it was rated quite LOW. a lot of people didn't like it for various reasons-- to me it was a great horror movie, however. i was fucking terrified through most of it, in a way that dracula shit can't make me (i laugh at horror movies, or they gross me out, but they don't "scare" me-- this one did.) oh yes, the real monsters--the mega-rich. |

And I'll add Chicago. I went to see the show, and it's fantastic and sexy and camp. The film wasn't any of that. |

To me Amelie is a cute idealistic movie, which is a nice pick me up, but Jeunet's earlier films are a lot better. |
