This band treads dangerously close to what I would deem "adult contemporary" music, or at least what listeners of adult contemporary would hold up as "edgy."

so songs about junkies, a dlowlifes, and adult situations, and th ebleak satisfaction drugs give in a world of never ending hurt and pain are "adult contemporary?"
come on. that is pathetic! Morphine wrote fabulous songs, with saxophone licks played through a wah-wah making it sound like guitar leads from hell, and all the fucking depth that 40 years of living and 20 years of playing music can give a human being. I fucking love them, and yes, it took me about 20 listens to CURE FOR PAIN for me to realize I loved it. their production is more like jazz than rock and it took me a while to get used to it. Cure for Pain Where is the ritual And tell me where where is the taste Where is the sacrifice And tell me where where is the faith Someday there'll be a cure for pain That's the day I throw my drugs away When they find a cure for pain Where is the cave Where the wise woman went And tell me where Where's all that money that I spent I propose a toast to my self control You see it crawling helpless on the floor Someday there'll be a cure for pain That's the day I throw my drugs away When they find a cure for pain (x2) When they find a cure find a cure for pain

Adult Alternative (that's what I usually call it) is whatever Adult Alternative radio stations play. Like classic rock.
Now if you were talking about how great Wilco is and how good the new Robert Plant/Allison Krauss CD is, we might be a bit more worried Rob. |

A lot of limp dad-rock music has these themes running though it. Cue Steely Dan. Quote:
I didn't say they couldn't play, but I do find this music to be way too hammy and smooth for my tastes, and lyrically I find them to be an incredibly cheesy band. That one tune about the singer being "the other man" is laughably cornball in its narrative, and that's one of their more "edgy/dirty" numbers. I'm sorry, I just can't hang. |

I have never of an "adult alternative" station. that sounds like another name for classic rock, just from the 80's and 90's.
so nirvana is adult alternative?

i haven't listened to them in ages, but i remember them being good, one of the few bands with prominent horns that i could bear at the time. i was considering going to see them in concert but they had to cancel, you know, with the singer being dead and all.

Adult Alternative isn't quite the same as Classic Rock. I mean it is like Classic Rock in that it is a genre completely invented by the radio stations that play it.
It isn't Classic alternative, but alternative and pseudo alternative music as well as mainstream music that is a bit too blase to be top 40, suited to the tastes of adults in their late 30s and early 40s. An adult alternative playlist looks something like this: Bjoerk Radiohead Wilco Morphine maybe some blues- nothing too good though, maybe some B.B. King stuff off of Robert Plant's solo albums and other new agey bullshit maybe some Joy Division thrown in there some Morrisey some Belle and Sebastian KT Tunstall check out this website: http://www.wyep.org look at their playlists, album reviews. You'll get the idea. You will never hear anything angry or energetic sounding on an Adult Alternative radio station. So no industrial, punk, hardcore, post-hardcore, noise rock, etc. Maybe some art rock, as long as it is kind of mellow. |

A good indicator of what is considered Adult Alternative
if my "hip" born-again Christian aunt talks about a band or artist, they immediately become adult alternative. |

We're just teasing Rob. Adult Alternative stations like to play Morphine, that's all.
Morphine's a pretty chill group. Well they were. |

I am just dumbfounded at the idea that "Adult Alternative" stations exist.
you know who we have to blame for that shit right? Nirvana's many clones, each one appropriating a teeny bit of the nirvana sound and adding it to standard run of the mill boring rock songs, a la creed. I bet those stations play a lot of Live too. fucking shit Live.
