They definitely were pre-"You Made Me Realise", and then became something totally different. To me, an anorak band is summat like The Pastels and The Shop Assistants (who I love). What MBV turned into went way above that, even if they still used the same 60's songwriting template. For me, an anorak band is one who sticks closely to a pre-defined formula without deviation, and MBV totally broke away from that with the "YMMR" EP. Amazing to think that they did that in such a short space of time after "Strawberry Wine" and "Ecstasy".

I vote "nerd" everytime.
And the "anorak" thing comes totally from the C-86 days, when an anorak was something like what Viz's Mr Logic would wear. They didn't have those badboys in 1988, that's for sure. And Alan McGee was making a bitchy comment about them being like a band in the pre-Creation days, so again, fuck him and his bitter shit.
