Girl Band are a one trick pony: the vocal style goes from completely disinterested rambling to screaming. I get lyrical content is banal on purpose since it's dealing with the guys mental issues and all power to him but every song sounds the same. By the end of an album I'm sick of him ranting about bananas and trips to the foken doctor. If you're hearing SY then colour me deaf.

Just in the vocals really, sounded a bit Thurston-esque to me. |

Doesn't take much.
I listened to the first few Cindy Lee tapes and they sound like early SY. However, since you specifically mentioned the new un and the fact that I haven't got around to listening to it yet (especially this), you only get half a point, Sir. This half a point is now deducted because of Girl band. Well done, you had it all and you threw it away. |

Bloody hell that Model Express album is gut-wrenching. I almost had to grab a beer even though I have a few hours of work left - not that it hasn't stopped me before mind. I forced myself to make a cupper instead.
Ugh shit! I forgot the sugar. I am ruined |

I listened to it yesterday. Good stuff. I especially enjoyed the Karen Carpenter excerpt where she is describing her argument with Satan in the living room. I didn't realise she was religiously fucked up. Bleak and haunting melancholy, reet up my street.

Wait, Lucifer Stand? How the hell did you know that’s Karen Carpenter? I was trying to find the origin of that sample when the album came out but all I could find were references to “a recording of a religious testimony”. Can you link your source on that please? |

I read the notes on the album posted on the bandcamp page which refers to a Karen Carpenter influence and the voice in the sample sounds just like her, so I presume it's her. I could be wrong.

Yeah, there’s Karen Carpenter references in the notes, but I’ve found no indication that it’s her in the recording. You could be right, but I actually wondered about exactly this not long ago, and scoured the Internet for references to the source. I can’t find an actual attribution anywhere. (Shrug) I’m super interested, is why I ask. Would rather know than assume, y’dig |

I'm most definitely late to the party here since these bands sound so much like Sonic Youth and you all probably already know of them: The band Patrick was in with his brother (Matt) before Cindy Lee are heavily influenced by SY too. Women, very good shit. After they broke up Matt formed Viet Cong and their first cassette is decent but they have since changed their name (maybe because WOKENESS! - which should definitely be punishable by death in middle eastern football grounds converted for public execution) and became far too polished for my taste.

Viet Cong kicked fucking ass before they changed their name. One of the best post-punk albums of the 2010s. Honestly stopped paying attention to the band now known as “Preoccupations.” Cindy Lee’s new one has miles on a lot of what came before it from the Women world, though. |

The more I listen the more I crave drugs. However I find myself in the unenviable position of growing up naturally drug free, then getting into the high life acquiring new drug friends and ditching the straights. Then becoming clean and ditching the obnoxious druggy's to find myself a recluse during a pandemic posting my amazing/shit music to a dead forum wishing I was on drugs again but having lost all contact am now cast adrift.
So, send me drugs yea? although if it's coming from america the customs might be a problem but since this is a public message if anyone is reading in the uk it would be easier since I don't think there are any sniffer dogs at the Royal mail. Don't get me wrong, I could be wrong. I could go and see my cuz around the corner but I can't be arsed innit, and I don't want to bother him. |
