Catherine Wheel's 'Chrome' is a good one to check out. Slowdive's early EPs and Isn't Anything are my favorite shoegaze releases though.

Souvalaki is really good, but I wouldnt call it my favourite SG album purely for the fact that there are 2 or 3 not so good tracks, mainly the more electronic songs. Cool that other people like swirlies on this board, san cristobel is one of my favourite songs. A good new band (If you can call them shoegaze) they sound like hum.

You've forgotten about this splendid record:
BOWERY ELECTRIC - B E A T It's like nothing I've ever heard before or after it...so eerie and hypnotic. A perfect record when you come back home drunk and your head's full of emotions. A beautiful one.

Curve were not a shoegaze band, Moose weren't either, Chapterhouse were considered garbage even then, and so were Cathrine Wheel. Good call on Bowery Electric, even though they aren't/weren't a shoegaze band either. The first three tracks on Souvalaki are really good but the rest of the album leaves quite a bit to be desired. As for the new breed, Lali Puna are a good band, not strictly shoegaze but they take inspiration from it and do some good things.

BE might not have been shoegazer band, ("Lushlife" is far far from shoegaze record), however "Beat" sounds very shoegaze.

As for a great recent shoegaze-sounding record, I'd also mention this one:
GLIFTED - UNDER AND IN It's basically an offshoot of the members of the American band Hum. I'm not at all a fan of Hum, but when I heard this CD, I really stumbled...Really catchy guitar riffs, drowned in endless wash of layers and MBV-like feedback loops, great melodies and dreamy atmosphere. A must-have.

The good thing about them is that they took inspiration from the genre, rather than just mimicking the poses or the 'cathedral of sound' thing. I don't know if Drop Nineteens have already been mentioned. Some good songs on this album, even though they ripped off MBV quite a bit: |

I suppose the indie- dance crossover with tinges of goth genre has never been given a category all its own. |

hahaha
i admit, all i have listened from that album are the 30 sec song samples(amg ones), (LOL, haha)after listening to the song samples on amazon, i found out a totally different album. LOL what pork said its true... it's more like a shoegaze inspired album, little things that you can notice here and there... |

The story about Moose is true, i was referring to the fact that by their first album the shoegazers status started going amiss. I've never liked Chapterhouse and i've found them heavily derivative of the whole scene that was about at the time. Another band i remember being around was Scorpio Rising from Liverpool, not a great one. The singer went on to form Plastic Fantastic and kick-started the whole short-lived Romo movement. |

I'd just like to say that I saw Slowdive once, and they were the most motherfucking boring band it's been my displeasure to see, ever.

Yeah, try track seven: Here You can still buy this album so that track won't be up long. But if that's not an incentive to buy the thing I don't know what is...
