The original Star Wars trilogy was great, and so was the original Star Trek. Star Wars really ignited my imagination as a child, and will always hold a special place in my heart. Star Trek didn't quite have the same effect on me. Star Trek is very stiff compared to Star Wars, Han Solo is much more Rock and Roll than Star Trek. As far as Sci-fi TV shows, I like the new Dr. Who and Battlestar Galactica a lot. Red Dwarf was a good sci-fi back when PBS used to show the repeats. I've never seen the tv show of Hitchhiker's guide, but I think I'd probably like that.

I like Star Trek TNG, but Star Wars has pretty much owned my soul since I was like 5. So yeah... Star Wars all the way.

seriously, you're asking an impossible question. you're pitting three of the most enthralling sci-fi movies ever made (star wars -- the original trilogy) against one of the most thought-provoking shows in the history of television (star trek -- the original series with shatner and nimoy). i mean . . . honestly, i love them both. but i'm still voting star trek because a) it's more intellectually substantive than star wars ever hoped to be, and b) face it, the prequel star wars trilogy is horrible.

I have yet to see Star Wars (and I suspect that by this point in my life I never will) so I've voted for Star Trek, because I don't mind it too much.

First 3 Star Wars(films from the 70s-80s) > Anything Star Trek related
Star Trek Next Generation > Last 3 Star Wars(90s-00s)

I like DUNE!!
I think the Dune books blow both of them away. But in answer to the question yeah, there's nothing quite like the first 3 Star Wars movies. Return of the Jedi being my fave. I do like the original Star Trek series with Shatner though. It was really trippy |

Even though the last three Star Wars movies were trash, the series takes the cake over Star Trek any day. Star Trek is the most gad damned phony thing ive ever seen.

Agreed. The Dune series is incredible, though the movie and the Sci-Fi mini series were pretty bad. Also, of course Star Wars is for kids! That doesn't mean it isn't awesome. |

Re: dune. I LOVE the Lynch m,ovie!
the miniseries was good too! what the fuck? and star wars is great, but the last three movies showed what it really was about, which is meaningless posturing disguised as myth. it is shit. star wars has died and rotted and you all know it. nothing will erase the wonder of the first three movies, but those movies were not sci-fi, nor were they ever meant to be. they are serials, cliiffhangers, old school hollywood adventure movies re-set for the future. in that they are homage. star trek has always been about ideas, which is what all true science fiction is about. it is morality plays. it involves human decisions, human morality, human essence, not just shooting ships and some BULLSHIT fucking "force" mystical nonsense. star trek is fantastic.

If you've read the books, I cannot possibly see how you could like either of these... The David Lynch movie would have been okay if they hadn't added all this nonsense, like the "wierding weapons." And although the miniseries did a better job of telling the story more acurrately, it was some of the most poorly acted shit I've ever seen. I thought both were kinda lame. Also, I agree that the SW prequels pretty much sucked. |

I could not agree more about what has happened to star wars. I still have not been able to bring myself to watch any SW movie since episode III. That said I still have a place in my heart for the OT. I guess I will rather have the battle be Empire Strikes Back verses Wrath of Kahn. I still would let ESB win because in my pathetic universe not much beats it?
