I'm not that aware of Kelly Clarkson's stuff but I hate the recent Justin Timberlake song (the one with the long video featuring Scarlett Johanson).
It seems to be an attempt to make something of a pop symphony, without any real empathy with the pop form itself. It's an anti-pop record, ultimately - filled with broadsweeping empty gestures and pretentious bombast. Compare it with Stars are Blind, which strips it down to perfection. That said, I'm not a massive fan of most of the RnB influenced pop currently being produced in the States. I tend to pin my flag more on the European post House variety. |

Besides, I think as a 36 year old my opinions on pop are sort of irrelevent. It's not made for me after all. When I was in my teens, the idea of a person in their 30s having the vaguest clue about good pop was, frankly, laughable.

I'm the product of spending too much time watching pop videos on tv as a child.

Fuck, gross, guys. I'll direct you to a thread on Punksud (local punk forum).
I can not for the life of me understand what is appealing about too high voices + annoying melodies + shitty dance music backing it all up. http://punksud.the1800phoneline.com/...pic.php?t=3914

all that means is that as teens one KNOWS NOTHING but thinks one knows everything. The greatest POP album ever, Michael Jackson's Thriller, was penned by Michael when he was 30 and by Quincy Jones who wrote most of the mnusic when he was in his 50's

Yeah well, Michael Jackson's not exactly known for his maturity and Quincy Jones is a one off genius. |
