I think there are plenty of companies that allow that... as long as you don't drive it outside of the EU borders. Plus they want you to mention it beforehand. Me and some friends rented a car once to go on holiday to France. Well, we got the car for free because of some discount thing but it was a rental car.

If I'd travel Europe I'd like to do it by train though, with the occasional cheap flight in between. But if you're on a shoestring budget you can also get really cheap busses sometimes (like Eurolines). Of course it can be hell to sit on a coach for hours on end, but if you're short on cash then there's no cheaper way to get from Amsterdam to Paris for 20 euros... except hitchhiking.

Tomorrow's the day the ship leaves. Another friends comes along so we're ultimate interrail tres amigoos. We haven't really planned anything, no hostels, nothing. The trip will either be a failure or a disaster.
Tomorrow at work will be a total hell..not to mention the next night.

About 15 years ago I did the whole interrail thing and it was great: Went mostly to Northern and Eastern Europe: Frankfurt, Berlin, Dresden, Prague, Budapest, Amsterdam, Krakow, Warsaw. Had a great time. would definitely recommend it if you have the time and money to do it.

demonrail, how long trip did you make? we're making only a 16-day trip which is the most we can afford at this moment.
Berlin and Prague, which I'm really looking forward to, are on our route too.

Mine was a month, but 16 days would be great for checking out Berlin and Prague - although you should have a look at Budapest if you get the chance. A great city. I'd say opt for maybe four days in each city - maybe longer in Berlin. You'd see most of what Prague and Budapest has to offer in 4 days each, easily.

emmah, take a plane and fly to Copenhagen for saturday

demonrail, we have planned to spend 2 nights in Copenhagen, 3 nights in Berlin and 5 in Prague. The remaining four days is still open, maybe a few nights in Hamburg and Reeperbahn We haven't get any hostels yet because nothing's sure yet, it's better to leave plans open because they tend to change.

At least 10 people are reported to have died and some 100 have been injured after a train ran into a collapsed bridge in the Czech Republic.
A railway spokesperson said the accident, near the eastern town of Studenka was "a serious disaster".
Firefighters are at the scene, helping remove the victims from the train, witnesses said.
The high-speed express train was travelling from the Polish city of Krakow to the Czech capital, Prague.
"An international train from Krakow to Prague ran into a collapsed bridge which fell on the rails in the area of the town Studenka," Radek Joklik, a spokesperson for Czech Railways, told local media.
Czech Railways said the train probably hit part of a motorway bridge under construction which fell on to the track, derailing three passenger carriages and the locomotive.
Initial reports suggest the train was travelling at speeds of 140km/h (87 mph) when it hit the bridge at 1030 local time (0830GMT).
An officer from the Czech fire service told Reuters that many people were injured in the crash.
"There are some dead, but we do not have precise numbers, because our people are rather devoting time to rescue those still alive," David Pridal said.
Czech Television said approximately 400 people were on board the train at the time of the accident.

It's nice to hear this kind of news the same day I'm leaving for an interrail trip to middle europe.
