(a)Stipe is a lengendary songwriter and performer. (b)evollove is someone whose reading comprehension seems "challenged" at best I'm fairly certain that Michael is referring to certain Georgia native types that are conservative Republicans. And...ah...evollove, I'm not referring to black persons when I write "native types." As far as the topic, R.E.M. are crazy great. As I am oft haha wont to remind. Or at least they used to be on top. Yo, catalyst here... |

I recently started getting into them. I'd always liked their songs I'd heard on the radio and such, and now I'm starting to realize how really great they are.

^not sarcastic i'll add that evollove doesn't have a past history of being a flamer... they are actually pretty cool, but simply misremembered something they weren't reading all that closely...i was probably a bit harsh before... Quote:
^sarcastic saving of face after being exposed as being most likely incorrect but go ahead and invent your own reality, pbradley, and continue to ignore the obvious... And it's not that I'm "taking everything too seriously"... it's merely that I'm less of a fool, that's all. Essentially, this board is worse than just about ever. For instance, we have members who are plainly trolls making threads like "sonic youth sucks." And they not only don't get banned, but instead are rewarded by bored half-wits with ample reviews and replies. Just hope I never completely buy into a "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" agenda of my own. But, hey, let's get on with the accolades for R.E.M.'s early work and forget the sandbox, shall we? |

Well it could have been sarcasm; if it was, it was just a bit dumb and irrelevant.

Yes "could've been," but, I'm sorry *raspberry* it was not sarcasm.
Read a little of evollove's posting history if you have no memory of who they are and what they are about in general. Hey, R.E.M.'s early greatness means something to me. And in this crazy, fucked-up world, excuse me, but Sonic Youth means something to me. If they don't to you, then take a hike. |

^ How is that not ironic humor? This is just another case of the same. Now I'm wondering if you're being sarcastic as the humor is pretty obvious. |

Anyways on the love for REM, I have a poster of them in Berlin for their Green World Tour in my room. One of my favorite albums of theirs.

Okay dimwit, I'll drop the sarcasm. For about 25 years, Michael Stipe has spoken out on a variety of issues which can best be described as "leftist." Even people who have little knowledge of REM are aware of this. Further, he has appeared on albums made by black people, and black people have appeared on R.E.M. tunes (actually, I can only think of one right now, but still). Thus, for Michael to make some pseudo-KKK statement is so incongruous as to be ironic, and possibly even funny. The fact that I even have to explain this is very sad indeed. |

How sad? Sadder than a kitten with no legs and inside out eyes?? Sadder than the day Opal Fruits died and became the evil Starburst??? Sadder when circus elephants get fed up wit their mistreatment and run riot only to get shot into submission by shotgun toting clowns and contortionists???? How sad? You must specify! You must draw a graph:
^This is a graph^ What have you learned?

I used to like them a lot, and I still do like songs like ''Pretty Persuasion'' and most of ''Reckoning''. To be honest I don't really care about the fact that they turned shit a number of years ago, since I sensed they would have by the time they had exploded to an extent that I couldn't get away from their music, which in turns started to sound faulty as a pure coincidence. I rarely have the time or the memory to put a record of theirs on these days, yet when I do it's good times. Michael Stipe does annoy me a great deal, though.

Sometimes I wish I was born a decade earlier and got Dead Letter Office when it came out. It is true.
