High School ? Is it OK to put on my romper room and Barney records and sing along ? LOL
One of the beautiful things about SY is that they appeal to pre-teens to 60+. Each show I've been to, I'm surrounded by the age gamut. Sorta like the Beatles, if there ever was a comparison to be made about age and the 2 bands. Age has absolutely NO bearing on my enjoyment or attendance. I do stay away from The Pit nowadays though, I don't want anymore swelling on the brain from physical contact. I'll leave the swelling for the VOLUME intensity !!! Crank them mo'fuckin' amps !!!!!! Ear plugs are for pussies !!!!!!!!!!

no i'm only concerned about a musician's genetic purity and predisposition to telepathy.

I think GeneticKiss is Robert Smith, or at least shares insecurities with the man.

Well theyve been aquiring underground music fans for almost 30 years now, thier oldest fans could prolly be 70 by now. Fact is, if you've liked underground music from 82-now, you know the name Sonic Youth. |

Although that may seem like a silly question, I have often run into that dillemma. Even subconsciously, I think I immediately write off any band that formed later than '82 (with a few exceptions of course) but then I got over it and started listening to Interpol. |

in honest response to the question, if I go see an unknown band play a show with 6 other bands at the small stage of a local club, and the crowd that showed up to see them looks like al l their fruiends from their high school, it does affect my view of them.
for one, I am more lenient if they suck. I think "oh, they're just kids and will get better with time". Oddly enough, it also makes me less likely to expect anything good though...

You know, there's something realy enjoyable about going to see ska/ punk bands whose hay-day was in the early 80s. I've seen Stiff Little Fingers about 9 times because it's really enjoyable to let the old boys let their (lack of) hair down. I really admire when the older gents get into a local hardcore show for kids half their age (I've seen bands' parents moshing before - amazing). Some of the 'younger' people might care, but that wasn't ever what it was about.

All this shit about people feeling "immature" about listening to young bands should a. grow some balls and b. research and eventually listen to an album called "Haunted House" by an artist called Pyha.
