You don't kill boredom, boredom kills you. Draw a picture.

john berryman has a poem saying "to admit you're bored means you have no inner resources."

Laziness is also another toxic fuel to throw onto the fire of boredom. I speak as someone who is far to lazy for his own good.

To say that boredom is a lack of imagination is just nonsense. Escapism can be as dangerous as doing nothing, sometimes. Boredom is a lack of outer resources, or motivation to find them.

look what I just learned
A wolf tone, or simply a "wolf", is produced when a played note matches the natural resonating frequency of the body of a musical instrument, producing a sustaining sympathetic artificial overtone that amplifies and expands the frequencies of the original note, frequently accompanied by an oscillating beating (due to the uneven frequencies between the natural note and artificial overtone) which may be likened to the howling of the animal. A similar phenomenon is the wolf interval, usually between E flat and G sharp, of the various non-circulating temperaments. |

boredom can also be caused by the frustration of wanting to do a particular thing and not being able to, making propect of doing anything else seem dissatisfactory.

Giving a person suggestions as to what to do when bored is pointless. If the person actually *wanted* to do any of those things, they would have thought to have done them already. Trying to chase away terminal boredom is nearly impossible.
Best thing I would suggest is to wait it out and realize that sometimes the world does fine without you. Soon (read: almost eternity) some ship shall pass your deserted island. |
