The American dream is an opportunity to join the reveling bourgeoisie sex market. If you're lucky. Or a sniveling bastard.

the american dream is to make something out of yourself via hard work. and to be able to do it without the cultural, caste, religious, etc oppressions that keep people "in their place" in much of the world.

The "american dream" is NOT the dream of the country AMERICA.
It is a dream held by those OUTSIDE the USA about what can be accomplished in the USA through hard work and determination. One can BECOME PRESIDENT damnit. that's the "american" dream. Dig?

Can't the American Dream be held by those within the US as well? It seems rather silly to think of it as a purely external sort of thing.

Does anyone else think of Bomb 20 when they think of the American Dream? No-one's uploaded the song to youtube, stupidly, so no linky linky today.

Apparently, the American Dream is being able to do an image search for any topic and find a suitable picture to fit your conversation.
My fellow Americans, our dream has finally been realized.

What Rob said is technically correct, but in reality the American dream is a subconsciously capitalist ideology imposed on the middle class for oppressing the poor.

"...Imposed on the middle class for opressing the poor"
That's one hell of a sentence.
