I'm reading his Jrnls80s thing. It's pretty badass. I really want to get East Jesus now. They have several of his CDs at the record store down here.

Paper Cup Exit was my favorite off Sonic Nurse. I don't know if I always prefer his stuff, but it's usually a strong point of the album. I got the impression that the upcoming solo record is going to be more rock/songwriter based, but I could be wrong.

Lee's songs are always my favorites. I saw hiw playing Drift in Brussels in april and it was my favorite show ever. Karen Koltrane and Hoarfrost are two of my three favorite sonic youth's songs.

Lee is great. The first time i ever heard Lee's voice was when i bought A Thousand Leaves in 98, and it was Hoarfrost. I didn't know SY at the time but i was an R.E.M. fan and at first listen, i thought the singer was Michael Stipe ! Sometimes Lee sounds like him, at least in this song. I had to check the liner notes to see it was a guy named Lee Ranaldo, silly me

I really like Jrnls80s. Some of it's hard to get my head around, but it's better than I expected. His entries are pretty emotional, but very abstract. It starts a little before Sonic Youth started, but he didn't write much until around '85. |

It's a published book of his journal entries/letters/poems/thoughts from 1980-1989.

I'm really surprised that a lot of you thought that Lee and Thurston were the same person when you head their singing. I immediatley heard the differemce in singing. And although when I fisrt started listening to them I didn't know the names of the band members, I knew the difference between Lee's and Thurston's vocals.

Also, Lee's songs are better than Thuston's and Kim's, although I love and value all members of the band.
