You're a homosexual? awesome, let's bang. not many fags are into the stuff we're into. The homos are into her solely because she could be on a Buffy soundtrack. |

I was wondering, is she a middle class or higher person making music in 2010? Is she bored?

I think some tracks are pretty interesting, but somehow it all seems unfinished, and I don't mean in a lo-fi way because her first tracks were better than the new ones, I just mean melodically. She's quite young so she might deliver something in the future, there's a lot of potential there but I don't get all the fuss honestly.

she's getting worse with time.
the song odessa is great but for her the album she rerecorded it and made it worse. too much 80's pop nostalgia. too much "i want to be srs like maddonna lol". |

Don't know. Some artists are good from the start, but some of my favs really kind of sucked in the beginning. It might not be her fault that people are paying too much attention to it so soon.

from what i've read coming from people who know her, lived with her and even played on her records, she had a knack for all things pr from the start. and that's ok, whatever. If you are conscious enough to put several records out of mediocre music, you're old enough to know what you're doing. besides, save for some rare cases, if it takes you so many releases to produce something that doesn't even sound brilliant surely you aint good enough. |

It's not like her music is bad. Not at all. I enjoy listening to it sometimes. So if she's promoting herself, good for her.
I don't know, I love Evangelista and as far as I know (because I am not really into the Geraldine Fibbers) it has taken her over 15 years to sound brilliant, in my opinion. I actually think it's kind of scary when someone sounds too good from the start - they tend to not be able to carry on. It's not the same for everybody. Anyone can come up with good or bad surprises. Normallly, I don't trust artists that never fail. But I'm not talking about her. She could definitely improve, as much as she can carry on doing this until everyone gets tired of it.

Well, with that in mind, in Zola Jesus' case she started good(ish) and progressively made lamer records. that's her sorted then.

I'm really enjoying the LA Vampires & Zola Jesus EP that came out a few months ago. Very dubby and they do a great cover of the reggae classic No No No (You Don't Love Me).
I'm a homo too by the way LOL

i can think of bands that got a lot better after they started, i can think of bands that started good and became worse, but i can't think of any bands that started good, got worse and then became good again, especially if they became more popular onece they became worse as is the case with Zole J.
It was obvious though that on the strength of her voice that she would become big, it's only in hindsight that it's obvious that turning rubbish facilitated her rise in popularity |
