Definately true. I think there's one of those groups in nearly every school. When I went to high school it was these people into anime and cards, although they all turned gothic and started cutting themselves, but yet still maintaining their card-playing selves. My girlfriend is an exception to this however, she's into manga but she's one of the most popular people in her area. She doesn't talk about it at all and thinks the card games are rediculous, so it really doesn't bother me at all.

is this thread about groupies?
goths, tias, surfers, freaks. we've them all too, but here all the urban tribes socialize together without any problems. |

I really can't understand why playing cards or watching manga can determine if people like someone, its seems completely irrelevant, like judging someone by the food they eat! In all my years in school I never heard a single person be called "Popular".....this north american stuff seems crazy (not having a go at North Americans, Wales has a whole lot of other problems)

Well it's just the idea of people being involved in a ficticious world and investing all the time and money into it just seems like a waste. The popular people think it's rediculous and doesn't accomplish anything, because almost all the time it doesn't. Haha, and I second you on what a Tia is. There was someone who questioned me as to what a wigger was on the board one time, I was pretty surprised but I'm sure there's a lot less of them in cultures other than the Americas.

yeah it seems a little pointless and boring, but whatever keeps you happy I suppose
I spend most of my time (when not out with my friends) Listening to Music, Writing Music and reading .....so i suppose we all have our geeky time wasters. I spend half my money on buying records (which probebly goes for the whole board i would imagine). It would be unfair for me to draw a big difference between what I do and what they do.

hahahaha that made my day. Would my girlfriend be a tia? I mean, she doesn't wear polo or have wax scented legs, but she was eating those jelly bellies pretty seductively.

I would think that's because most of the middle class chavs would be 'preps' or whatever that trendy type is in America. Or maybe we're alone in the social degredation of our society! |

to me american schools dont look very structured at all compared to british schools. you dont have to wear uniform and cna pretty much skip class whenever you feel like it.

There was an article in the paper that was about cliques. And, I was happy to say that I fit into none of them! There was rednecks, emo/goth kids, druggy kids, anime kids, and prep kids

My school is so big you really can't have cliques like that. There are almost 4,000 kids at my highschool, so everything kind of just gets jumbled together because it is impossible to know everyone in that school.
