if they get Hudink it might be ok (but they really really need to give him a chance to settle). If they get Grant i will piss myself.

Rijkaard is having a sabbatical year at the moment. There's been some speculation here that he's waiting for AC Milan, because Ancelotti is rumoured to leave there at the end of this season. I could see Ancelotti going to Chelsea then. |

According to the papers, Chelsea have given Hiddink the job till at least the end of the season. He's mates with Roman so there should be a bit less interference from the oligarch (who seems to look more and more like Damon Albarn by the day).
I rate Avram Grant but wonder why he'd want to get involved with Pompey right now. The club's for sale and they don't seem to have any money. A sinking ship if you ask me. |

Damon Albarn, exactly! Well spotted.
Hiddink's only going to finish the season and that's it. I'm still putting my money on Ancelotti for the next season. Quote:
What he really meant to say is that Roman is paying his salary as Russia coach so he couldn't really refuse. |

Ha ha, yeah. Exactly. He said he's doing it as a 'favour'. 2.5 million for three months work or the alternative of working in a salt mine sounds like a favour nobody would refuse. The fact that he's still gonna stay in charge of the Russian national team will surely be used as a point of attack by Chelsea fans, should results not go their way.
How is Tsar Hiddink thought of in Holland these days? I've wondered why he never returned there after messing around with teams like Australia and S'th Korea. That fucker has to have one of the strangest CVs in world football - besides Erikkson, of course. |

Despite of kicking Holland out of Euro 2008, he's generally admired I think, for qualifying 4 different national teams to big tournaments and taking them far into the tournament every time (3 semi-finals, only Australia were unfortunate against Italy). Many people consider him the best Dutch coach at this moment, and I tend to agree. But his reputation took somewhat of a dent 2 years ago after he was suspected of tax evasion.
His amount of lucky escapes also earned him the nickname "Guus Geluk", which happens to be the Dutch name for this Disney character: (you know, the one whose luck defies the laws of probability) I would have liked to see him return as manager for Holland, but alas, Hiddink's not interested. |

Surely the strangest CV in world football coaching belongs to Leo Beenhakker. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leo_Beenhakker He's been to World Cups and European Championships with the likes of Holland, Trinidad & Tobago(!) and Poland and was even Saudi Arabia's coach for a short time.... Then in club football he's made some bold carreer switches (from Feyenoord to Ajax and back to Feyenoord, that's NOT taken lightly around these parts!) and has had a coaching carreer that brought him to Real Madrid (3 league titles), but also to the Mexican league (twice), the Turkish league and the Swiss league... seriously. Just in the last 10 years alone he went from Rotterdam to Amsterdam to Mexico to a smalltown Dutch team nicknamed "super farmers" to Trinidad & Tobago to Poland and back to Rotterdam next season hopefully (as technical director). |

Have you heard Chelsea have changed their nickname? From now on, it's going to be Sharon Watts.
Apparently she dumped Grant and Phil too. |

Brilliant! I must admit, I'm absolutely loving Chelsea's current descent into utter stupidity. They push out arguably the best young manager in world football (Jose) then sack a bloke who gets them to within a penalty kick of winning the Champions League (Avram). Then, just incase nobody noticed the sheer daftness of those decisions they go and ditch a World Cup winner in Scolari half way through the poor sods first season. When are Chelsea fans gonna wake up and realise that Roman is turning their club into a complete laughing stock? they should be holding up banners saying 'Roman Out', rather than those calling for the head of their manager (whoever it happens to be that month) every time they suffer a draw. "All together now .... Park Life!" |

Shearer to take over the manager's seat at Newcastle...
Surely this has to be an April Fool joke? |

Socceroos defeat Uzbekistan 2-0 and get one foot in the door for the 2010 WC. If Bahrain and Qatar draw the Socceroos are straight in, but they should be a shoe in anyway only needing 1 point in their final three qualifiers to go through...

I think it's legit. I think Shearer's an idiot for taking it though. Why didn't he just wait until Ashley went so he could step in for a 'new era'? Taking the job now he'll be embroiled in all the crap currently surrounding Newcastle.

He's in a win-win situation though. If his appointment achieves nothing and Newcastle are relegated, it will be Ashley's fault, if they stay up it will be because of Shearer. I'd say that he's better off if they go down - if they stay up the whole of Geordieland will be calling for him to remain as manager next season, which I can't imagine would be in his interests.

I like Newcastle as a club but they strike me as being too keen to try and solve the problems of the present using past icons (first Keegan and now Shearer). If it works then, as you say, he'll be an even greater God up there than he is already. But it's a massive risk for the club who i still think were probably good enough under Houghton to avoid the drop.

Newcastle have the manager they deserve.
I hope they enjoy playing in the Championship next season.
