The Longest Yard remake. It was alright and made me laugh at times, but wasn't a keeper

BRILLIANT here's the first minute for you who haven't experienced: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75JH3UbW1H8 but that-- kinda misses the point. watch it. rohmer is a fucking genius. oh yeah, he still lives. |

House of Flying Daggers
7.5/10 Typical of these japanese martial arts driven movies: Awesome visually, story.. who gives a shit, its there so there's a reason for violent acrobatics. The story wasn't necesarilly "bad" just unengaging.. but that, like I said, isn't really the point. Alot of great to look at, bad ass parts. But, some of them were stupid in their execution or in how they looked.

I should explain why Quantum of Solace sucked -
it felt like an epilogue to Casino Royale, it was having trouble standing on its own. The action scenes were shaky as hell and difficult to follow. There was no sense of urgency. The villain was stealing water from poor oppressed Bolivians. They were already poor and oppressed and this guy was stealing water from them - okay no offense to the poor and oppressed but geeze, in the scale of things WTF? Bond villains are supposed to be bigger than life. I only kind of felt like Bond was in danger and the fate of the world wasn't even close to being at stake. Oh yeah - the whole film is about Bond getting vengeance for Vesper dying in the last film, but half of the time you're forgetting that point because the movie is such a muddled mess. So yeah - this film was awful and even more disappointing after the amazing Casino Royale.

ha ha ha ha i dont know. i thought it was longer. it's a good movie if you like to read subtitles-- there is an endless reflection by the character about what's going on in the movie. #4 of rohmer's "six moral tales"-- fucking brilliant shit. |

and rob-- i'd recommend starting with rohmer's first two "moral tales", which establish the theme from which the motifs are spun off in successive films.
1) The Bakery Girl of Monceau 2) Suzanne's Career These two are short movies, easily watched. Both in black and white. Issued in a box set by Criterion a couple of years ago with the other 4 movies, and readily available via Netflix. |

ab-normal beauty - 7/10 Beautiful and at times disturbing atmospheric film that's very rarely brilliant but always fun to look at. dressed to kill - 8/10 Brian DePalma rules... well, usually. a boy and his dog - 6/10 Very odd apocalyptic film starring a dog. |
