The "racist" tag I believe is quite misapplied, especially given how many of his close associates have been Jewish. The misogyny thing has a bit more credibility as a criticism, though I do think he plays the role of the provocateur in that area most of the time as well. It's not like he was jailed for beating women like Jim Goad, for instance.

Social Darwinism I will give you, but he is hardly the only person to have expressed those views, and many of the other people holding those views also hold office.

Not to mention when there are African warlords kidnapping children and making them kill their own parents before turning them into child soldiers, a guy like Boyd Rice is pretty small potatoes in the Asshole Universe, no matter what your opinion of his art or views is.

It's not like I wholeheartedly back everything he says or does. I do think there are genuine contributions he has made artistically, regardless of his personality. Much like David Smith the sculptor, Salvador Dali, or Varg Vikernes.

I saw him a couple years ago. While his gimmick isn't really my thing, I must admit, live, he does exhibit powerful presence. He opened for Cold Cave who totally sucked.

Someone set off smoke bombs (someone in attendance who "heard" before the show that this Boyd Rice cat a racist)....It did nothing more than make the show more interesting however. A few people were freaking out a bit thinking there might be a fire or some shit.

It was fun. I'd see 'em again. I wouldn't buy his records because sitting around listening to that shit feels cartoony.
