Hmmm... for lack of a better saying, "Beggers can't be choosers"? (not saying you're a begger though)

Andrei, I TOTALLY disagree with you. Remember, this stream is supposed to be for those who bought the record. It's not even downloadable on the begn site. It's NOT a stand-in for the album. It's not a shitty copy, it's a pre release STREAM, for fuck's sake. I can't see how people would not be interested in the "proper version", as you call it (not sure you're talking about a "real" copy or a decent mp3 version), since they already bought it, along with a limited Lp, a poster, some more digital goodies etc. This shows that some people, the label and the band have interest in way more "real world" things than the stream. The opposite of what you said, basically. Now, people who listen to "pirate copies" of it (I can't even imagine having to stick with a rip of a streaming of something I care for, even remotely...) and will settle for that are the same who wouldn't buy the record anyway. Good for them. Enjoy watching movies spying on the tv in your neighbour's living room from the window of your bathroom. That's true dedication! (^^^ this is not addressed to andrei, but to those who don't care about the quality of the things they listen/watch etc and say they are "fans" or something) ahahahahaha great morning.

What the fuck is even the point, then? Might as well download the album or something. I mean honestly, it's 4 in the morning and I'm tired and incomprehensible but.. what? You can't really have your cake and eat it too in this situation. There's enough illegal downloading going on these days (I mean I do it too so whatever) but when it comes to the record companies they need a strategy that benefits both them and the consumer and I really think this streaming thing works out, because more than likely, I'm going to buy The Eternal. I don't normally buy CDs anymore, but I mean, I think Sonic Youth is worth it, it's the least they deserve, and it's the least I deserve too I suppose if only because it does feel like the sound quality could be admittedly better. So while I don't like this album much so far, I do enjoy it enough to warrant a purchase. And uh isn't that sort of the whole point of the stream, to pique the interest of the ones who listen to it? Jeez people ask for too much I think. |

Ha ha, I like how people who shouldn't even be able to listen to the stream contribute to the discussion .
(not a diss at you, summer, or anyone else, it's just hilarious to me).

Man, the internet sure is a wild place with experts on sound quality and how to market albums for labels.
PS, if it was 192 kbps, you wouldn't really hear any audible difference between this and the final product. PPS: Streams like this allow you to hear a product early. If you don't want to, then don't. Any leaked versions of this stream are going to sound terrible, which ensures that it won't end up on major private trackers for torrents. It's a smart move to put it out at >192. We get a bonus, and the album is still pretty secure.

I think every single good point has been made in this thread already.
Here's betting that this thread will still continue on for another 5 or 6 pages regardless. |

No, you made a good point, about people downloading it and sharing a "better quality rip" for trackers and whatnot. That was the last good point to be made, I think. |

I always assumed that's why the releases were gonna be >192 until closer to the release date. The Sacred Trickster mp3 was 160 iirc, and then this is 128. Most trackers won't allow anything >192 (not to mention that the rip floating around right now is transcoded to shit) so this guarantees that audiophiles/audiophile wannabes won't be downloading a "lesser" quality release. This is just a nice little bonus while the album gets pressed for those who wanted it, while keeping it in a state that will keep it off the major music trackers (waffles.fm and what.cd).

I also hate the season summer. SYRFox just lent me this account since it wouldn't let me make a new account.
Also, am I stupid or are you people doing it wrong? Wouldn't >192 mean greater than 192? |
