Pavement.
The opening bands were Delgados ( ultra boring ) , and The Pastels ( cancelled ). So they played , and the crowd was very enthusiastic , and the members of Pavement looked very glad ( like , you love us , thank you so much , but you're right cause we're so great ) , and I thought it was boring , and the beer was fucking expensive. |

Blink-182. My girlfriend dragged me when I was thirteen.
They spent 80% of the show telling fart jokes. The other 20% consisted of Tom Delonge (I think that's his name?) fumbling over his own guitar parts. Dreadful. |

Is this because they played badly, or are you simply not a huge fan of their music? I saw them last year and thought they were really good. |

I once saw Franz Ferdinand sometime in 2004 having only heard half their tracks on the self-titled. Still naively hopeful of the post-punk revival thing at the time, I was disappointed by how kind of impersonal the experience was. They played all the songs with the same dancey sheen as on the album with smiles to accompany but it felt canned. Then of course the true color of post-punk revivalism was revealed and by then I didn't bother to buy their second album.
Not an abysmal performance but the worst in comparison to everything else I've been to. |

I got talked into going to see Hootie and The Blowfish once. I wanted to shoot myself. Not even that I hate them so much (I don't like them, but hate is a strong word) but it was just incredibly boring. I was underage so I couldn't buy alcohol (I managed to get some, as I always did, but not enough to compensate) and it was outside and super hot and I just wanted to leave.

Ascension at the Bull and Gate. Most pretentious piece of art-wank I've ever had the misfortune to experience.

Manic Street Preachers at Wembley arena 5 odd years ago doing their greatest hits tour, I was perched right in the back seats next to the came-straight-from-work crowd, the sound was crap, they played 1 Holy Bible song and i had to leave early to get a train.
Oh and Ian Brown was opening, but he was insulting the crowd in an entertaining way.

bob dylan. the sound was terrible, he didn't touch his guitar not once, all the songs had been reworked in a weird way -- it was just shit. however, merle haggard, who opened for dylan, was fantastic.

A Buddy Holly tribute band in a suburban Mpls bar around 1980. I wanted to puke. The margaritas were good, though.

YACHT playing at this year's SUNY Purchase Culture Shock festival. The epitamy of hipster douchebagery, two assholes hopping up and down singing the WORST lyrics i've ever heard over and over to tracks being played, "bad dance moves" to be cool etc. If they had had an actual band backing them they would have been just as bad but maybe slightly more respectful. I think they're a joke band but they took themselves too seriously for any humor evoking reaction.
The rest of the festival wasn't by any means bad (High Places, Deerhoof were great) but the students there were pretty big assholes. Fucked Up's set got broken up by the cops because of how apeshit the student body went during their performance.

Known bands: the new misfits line up has to be some of the biggest shit I've ever seen.. i mean wow I was pissed. I didn't expect much, and tickets were cheap... but man these guys need to go away.
Unknown bands: a local grindcore band called shot to death still makes me cringe.... all their songt itles were mash ups of words that have to do with death, like the classic "bullet obituary"
