IM, what if I told you that I was going to this year's Gathering of the Juggalos?

In fact, I'm spending $300 on the trip - including beer, drugs, Faygo, camping supplies, food, gas, concert tickets, camping lot w/ water + electricity, and merch money.

August 10th-16th are going to be pure heaven.

I mean, just check out the wet t-shirt contest from last year's event.

I'd think if you find something like ICP amusing, that's just dandy, really. But surely you realize that you are commending something that is a spectacle purely off the fact that it's exaggerated and silly and therefor not going to share the same opinion (or respect) by others about such acts.

You are buying into performers draw as a spectacle, and by zany personalities at best. Perhaps they instigate letting loose, a good party, etc. I think it'd be more about how fucked up you can get in their presence amongst friends and not by their talent or depth.... good times, and nothing wrong with that. That's all good, I'm sure they instigate countless, priceless memories for lots of attendees.... but frankly their act revolves around silliness. Buck-up!

They represent, letting go, getting zany, being silly... PARTYING! .... you know, "Clowns". You'd have to just accept yourself as unique for finding them entertaining, and you have to fuck what kind of criticism is thrown out at them or even you..... but you don't truly expect even a reasonable level of mutual respect for them, really?

I don't think ICP is "lowest common demoninator", I think bands like the White Stripes fit that description more -- simple predictable boring shit designed simply to be quick, cheap, and fast; get in, get out and make shit-tons of money with no talent or artistic credibility. Whether or not you like ICP, they have released some genuinely creepy, interesting horror raps; and are genuinely funny at times too. I dunno, this goes with what I was saying about Pantera earlier; the people who criticize ICP are 99% of the time criticizining them based on their fanbase, without hearing a note of their music.

Most juggalos are idiots, true, but some of the ones I met are about a billion times cooler than the My Chemical Romance scenester bullshit.

are these rednecks the deadheads of the xxi century? i remember the deadheads, they were smelly but prettier, dancing by themselves completely devoid of rhythm and all tripped out on acid-- there were fun to watch. these people here are ass-ugly. between watching a warty anus and this video, i don't know what to choose.

i don't care about their music at all. im sure what you say is true. i'm just making fun of their fans.

i can see how their stupidity could be appealing when compared to the stupidity of white stripes indie or emo taking it seriously stupidity.

what's weird about them is the reverse black face. don't they come from detroit? black panthers, lots of radical culture, then no jobs, it all shuts down and you end up with icp and weird reverse black face stuff. what is it, some sort of subliminal identification with the "we're all niggers now" attitude, and capitalist hip hop culture. fair enough... but its a bit old now.
