Exactly as predicted!
The CLM tracks are leftovers from last year, but I imagine if he comes to the US again he may play with them? Has he played the US lately?

I'm curious to hear how the album will sound, particularly since the "new" songs (any actual titles yet for "I Love You Forevermore" "Speak to the Wild" or the instrumental?) were all recorded back in March in what I presume was a quick Neil Young-style "learn/record" process. Having said that, the March gigs I watched (with James and Steve) seemed a little unfocused, and I found myself enjoying the songs more in gigs with just Thurston and James playing guitar (extremely similar parts, at that). That had a much more hypnotic togetherness that I didn't get out of the trio sets I watched on youtube.
Having said that, Steve is obviously an excellent candidate to slide right into a jam/learn/record situation with Thurston...I just hope the songs are a little tighter on the record (I'm assuming the tracks recorded in March were done as a live quartet with Deb in studio).

But anyway they have made those songs in the studio, so I believe there are many takes and they choose the best ones. I really expect this record! I have always loved albums which donīt have just one mood. And I liked also how they sounded into that gig.

Soon I hope, I'm just glad Thurston and Steve are still recording and playing together. Looking forward to more news and hopefully music from this thing.

Ah man, here I thought I was going to bring something new to the table.
Thurston Moore Forms new band with Steve Shelley, My Bloody Valentine's Deb Googe on bass, and James Sedwards I have not read this thread in full. I haven't even read the above article from beginning to end, but I hope... I really, really, really hope that Chelsea Light Moving doesn't end up being a one-time-thing. Of all the Sonic Youth side projects we've seen come and go over the years, I think it was possibly the only that had a unique enough sound and personality to become its own thing. The hard edged sound was unexpectedly fresh and new sounding, and had more of a drone/stone noise-rock vibe to it than Sonic Youth ever did. They were either just-plain-noise, no-wave, noise-jam-type thing, or in the instance of Rather Ripped, noise-pop. But CLM was not just an extension of the SY sound. I really hope that group keeps going, maybe with some shared vocals, and non-Thurston lyrics on it's next go around. Still, I think we can expect excellent things from this new band setup. Someday I'd like Thurston and Lee to make a record with Kevin Shields and J. Mascis, maybe with Bobby Gillespie on drums, and... Fuckit, how about Novoselic on bass? That would be great, especially if they sold themselves as something other than a "super group." I will resume dreaming now. |

Bobby Gillespie should be BANNED from having to do anything with music for the rest of his LIFE. Guy peaked banging those drums on Psychocandy; after that he should have moved on and sell shoes or something. Quote:
Incidentally, Novoselic is now in Super-Earth with Corin Tucker, The Venus 3 (Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey & Bill Rieflin) and Kurt Bloch. I'm hoping for a BITCHEN album.
