I just got the strangest piece of spam email. You know how lately they've been using subject lines that have nothing to do with Viagra or Dick Lengtheners so you'll open it expecting a note from a friend? Well, I just got one with the subject line, "If you want your name spelt wrong, die." Now what kind of impetus does that give me to open the email!? And what is it even supposed to mean?
Anyway... |

I find it more shocking when someone is shocked by another person's choices when it comes to choose a bunch of records that resonate with them. Or, say, the unhealthy fascination that this forum has with the 90s, particularly the first part of that decade. And They Might Be Giants. Still, to each their own.

so what is more pedantic and inane? someone commenting on a choice, or someone commenting on the commenting?

I also put NYCG&F higher than all those you listed. Daydream is one of my least favorites. It probably has a lot to do with when you were introduced to their music, and through which records. The first cut is the deepest etc etc. |

AGAINST THE GRAIN! THAT'S WHERE I'LL STAY! SWIMMING UPSTREAM -- I MAINTAIN AGAINST THE GRAIN!
Vs, Plastic Surgery Disasters, Red Medicine, Action Park, Surfer Rosa, Out of Step... damn dude, this is taking me back to high school. Have seen so many great lists on this thread, albums I've loved but haven't listened to in years. Great work everyone. I hope this thread can inspire people to finally getting around to checking out some of these albums. For example, I'm downloading that Prurient album mentioned earlier in the thread now. |

I love that dead c album, it took me forever to get into it, but once it hit -- it hit hard. I'd rate all those gate albums up there as some of my absolute favs. Who/what is Windy and Carl? I always hear them (?) mentioned but I have no idea what it is. |

Yeah! I had forgotten just how much I love Bad Religion, then I sort of randomly put that album on the other day and it damn near made me cry. That's like my favorite punk rock, just-be-yourself anthem. It's like this total statement of purpose that so appealed to me when I first got into that band years ago. |

La Dusseldorf - Viva
Shizuka - Live/Traditional Aesthetics Einsturzende Neubauten - Haus der Luge Rowland S. Howard - Teenage Snuff Film Malice Mizer - Memoire DX Boris - Feedbacker The Verlaines - Hallelujah All the Way Home These Immortal Souls - Get Lost (Don't Lie!) Laughing Clowns - Ghosts of an Ideal Wife Pink Floyd - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn I couldn't find a place for the Birthday Party though (and I usually say they're my favourite band). Megadeth (Killing is my Business), White Heaven (Out), Neu! (Neu!75), Kousokuya (1st), Television (The Blow Up) and Sonic Youth (BMR/DDN) also just missed out.
