Everyneurotic's post sparked some reminisces, so please pardon me. I remember watching Olivia's abc special for the "Physical" album. It was during the Jane Fonda workout craze. I was a big fan of Olivia Newton-John as a wee one (The Simpsons reference), and while watching that show, I first became acquainted to what "selling out" & what soulless "cheese" was. The first albums I ever owned were her Greatest Hits volume 1 & 2 & the Xanadu soundtrack, which, although they contained elements of cheese as well, were somewhat more artistic efforts.

It does go to show something. Both songs are pretty much about male desire and the male gaze I suppose....which is quite apt for a self confessed perv such as yourself I think it's time to throw astrology in the bin and take up numberoneology... |

I love that song. Wanna swap birthdays? I don't actually like Kraftwerk, in spite of the fact that that's not really the right thing to say.

Bee Gees - Night Fever (US).
I'm not even sure if I know that song. Dutch number 1 that day were also the fucking Bee Gees... but Staying Alive. |

Oh, come now - surely that song is implanted in the blood of every living person who's ever been to an awful school/ wedding disco?

Well I know Staying Alive and plenty of other Bee Gees songs of course, but this one doesn't ring a bell that quickly... I'll check a soundsample.
Seems it wasn't a number 1 song in holland anyway. http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nummer_...Top_40_in_1978 1978 was an awful year for number 1 songs... apart from the Bee Gees it has a lot of other Saturday Night Fever/Grease songs (Olivia Newton John with and without John Travolta) plus Boney M and Meatloaf. |

I think you failed to mis-spell Police there.

Hey man, "Message In A Bottle" is actually a pretty cool song ...love that opening riff. The Police rocked, it's Sting's solo work that sucks. |

Kim Wilde - You Keep Me Hanging On
Among other options that year, such as U2, Whitney Housten, George Michael, and Bon Jovi, that's not too bad. Though I would have prefered that crappy Starship song - just because it's Grace Slick. |
