Chester; A Historical and Topographical Account of the City (1903), written by the quite superbly monikered Bertram C A Windle and illustrated by Edmund H New (Edmund is a quite excellent name, I think). I purchased it today.

Just finished this:

I got it free at a conference and read it during the 3 hour train journey back.
Like all McEwan's books, it's good, but has nothing that will stay with you for long.
But it does have one real laugh-out-loud moment, which made me laugh like a drain.

I'm reading House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. I'm about 100 pages in and really enjoying it so far.

I'm reading every single thing on the giant Warhol book my friend got me, including all the original newspaper articles that he got the pictures for certain series from. It's so good, it made my day completely.

Over at the the Science Fiction EZ Board we're gearing up for our next Group Read - and just for a change, we'll be running it from June 15th to July 15th.

The author we're spotlighting this time is M. John Harrison, whose most recent novels have included the acclaimed "Nova Swing", "Light", and "Signs of Life" - but we're going back three decades to The Centauri Device, described at the time as "a galaxy-spanning novel of intrigue and violence in the great tradition of the all-time classics of science fiction adventure." A mysterious weapon of galaxy-shattering power, a hero threatened on all sides by warring military forces, spectacular battles between fleets of heavily-armed space cruisers, and deadly interstellar intrigue? Sounds like fun, right?

So grab a copy, and get ready for thrills, excitement, and major explosions, both in the book and on our forum, starting on June 15th! Just join us in the M. John Harrison thread.

Attempting to read James Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. Just finished reading Kafka's Metamorphosis. Honestly it's the first book I've read since The Bell Jar in Spring 2006. Who am I kidding?

The metamorphosis is one of my favorites along with the Stranger by Albert Camus. It is just sad how the family turned against him.
