indeed. I used to record the NBC Letterman on the Betamax, then the VHS and watch it when I got home from school, waiting for parents to get home.
In High School I would stay up on Fridays and watch it while on the phone with my best friend who was watching it in his home on the other side of town. In College I got kicked out of the dormitory partly because of being written up after quiet hours for laughing at Letterman.

Rob when you were in highschool was probably the last time letterman was funny! This whole fawning over a past his prime retirement seems patronizing if you ask me

he has been hilarious the whole time, and even better after he actually stopped caring.
what people are "fawning" over is the end of an era. My TV best friend has left the airwaves and I cried myself to sleep last night. no lie. scared the shit out of my wife. There are no more TV talk shows for the angry, intelligent bitter people....everything is smarm, and ass-sucking, and people pretending to care, which was exactly what Dave never ever ever did. Honesty in network TV is exceedingly rare.

saw the 5th? season of downton abbey. can't remember why i liked this show in the first place. seems now a kind of period fetish for anglophiliac pbs audiences. very little to look at since they killed the hot sister-- lady halfmoon and lady fishface are each annoying in their own way. the last entertaining character is the grandma who cracks me up. otherwise, super-dull and repetitive. i think this was supposed to last for 3 seasons only but after the initial success they've squeezed that tit until only sand comes out of it. it ends set up for a 6th season but why bother--just kill them all now.

can't say im that sad about Letterman leaving because I stopped watching him years ago. i got older and had to work no DVR blah blah....you know, but I always did enjoy him when I caught him. certainly was a fan of sorts.
I will say this, im very very excited that Colbert will take his place. can't wait. he'll be classic in everyway like Letterman. maybe more. |

im mean, Letterman had Beefheart on his show more than once. that's something right there. instead of Fallon inviting Keith Richards on his show just so he can do an impression of him. Fallon is ok, but he's kinda dorky and lame.

I loved the early to mid Letterman shows. It became overly cynical and a little too same-same after that. Also, I just couldn't stay up that late at night anymore, and being technologically retarded, never recorded, t-voed, etc. It was good for its time, 80s and early 90s. It had a good run.

Fallon is ok, I enjoyed him on SNL but that's it. The Roots and the guest are cool, but meh. im excited for Colbert!!! |

Rednecks On Ice (aka Life Below Zero)
can't stand that bitch sue and her language formulas-- every world coming out of her mouth is some goddamn folksy prefab expression the eskimo lady's family is my favorite == ps- on the third season now, it's got so repetitive-- "here you have to kill in order to live" bla bla bla bla -- i'm dropping it |

the most popular sitcom now is The Big Bang Theory. wimpy nerds are everywhere. and not the cool kind. I doubt most young men these days know how to even change a tire.

been watching the 3rd season of GIRLS.
it's pretty awful tv. all the characters are douches, all despicable in their own way. highly aggravating people. if i met them in real life i'd kill them all. preferrably with metal hooks or a machete. as a work of ethnography however it could be redeeming. i can see the appeal of it as a kind of national geographic show. the white tribes of new york seem to be heading towards extinction-- they remind me of the elois in "the time machine." i have to ask, however, if any of you know if these people are based in real life-- i have no direct experience of that world. also, the constant sight of lena dunham's asscrack reaching all the way up to her shoulderblades is extremely disturbing. do not eat while watching this. |

I find Lena Dunham's asscrack to be very appealing. I should watch it.
