I'll admit Planet Terror was a lot more immediate, but in all honesty, Grindhouse is best appreciated when taken as a whole, fake trailers and all.

I think the fake trailers were the best part of Grindhouse by far. If that had been the whole movie, that would have been incredible.

I remember when it came out opening night, me and my girlfriend and our friend were the only one there. No one else in the entire theatre. That weirded me out. On the other hand, when Basterds opened, it was on two screens opening night and both theaters were packed.

I must say, I really like the idea of Tarantino -- I'm glad he exists. He has balls. No other modern filmmaker would release a movie like Death Proof into theatres nowadays ... then again, no other filmmaker could probably get away with doing something that ridiculous. It's pretty remarkable.

that's because the first reel was beat up, but the second reel was in better shape. (obviously not for real, but that's what he was aiming for).

and I think that's such a big part of what made me love the film, Adam. I love that a movie that really is about as good as something generally buried on cable TV at 2AM was made by a high-profile director, got widescreen distribution, and a major marketing campaign. That's awesome. And I'm glad that you understand/appreciate that aspect of his work.

Of course. I don't hate Tarantino in the least, I think a lot of what I say is misunderstood, because I'm highly opionated on... everything. Obviously, I have watched just about everything he's ever been involved in, I must appreciate some aspect of his work. My thing is, I see him as a really interesting big-name b-movie/exploitation director rather than an iconic, genius director. Still, he has merit.

I like the idea of Grindhouse as an experiment. I wish more directors would do that. What if, for example, Peter Jackson had made the Lord of the Rings movies earlier in his career -- and then made Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles, and Dead Alive? How absurd and awesome would that be?

...as for Eli Roth, I actually re-watched all his movies with my friend recently, and I think he is just another average director, with some interesting weird asides. I think Hostel II is WAY better than Hostel, and I think Cabin Fever is actually quite a good comedy.

As a person, though, he seems like a douche.

Me too! I guess that's what has kept me a fan for jeez fifteen years?? And maybe that's the genius that I see in him. He's a fan of trash flicks making trash flicks for fans. Eh? It's awesome.

And yeah, I've thought about the Peter Jackson thing too. I wish he would make some awesome crap again. Instead of boring crap. I have a feeling that The Lovely Bones is going to be a lot more Hollywood fluff than say the treatment he gave to Heavenly Creatures.

It's this kind of thinking that made me love Drag Me To Hell. Was it a perfect film? No. Was it great? Not quite. BUT it was pretty sick at parts. And weird. And ballsy when following the Big $ Spiderman trilogy. I'm glad that Raimi made a film like that again. I'm glad he still wants to. I still hope me makes Evil De4d.

Finally! Finally Adam!

Yes HOSTEL II is way better than HOSTEL. I've been saying that since opening night of HOSTEL II and nobody seems to get it! Gawd. Thank you.

And yes, CABIN FEVER is a comedy. It's a sick awesome comedy (um, pretty obviously in love with EVIL DEAD II). Was it groundbreaking? Certainly not. Was it a fantastic homage that NEEDED to hit mainstream cinema-goers AT THAT TIME? YES! Awesome. And fun. I think it's great.

Eli Roth was actually tying to get something like this going. I doubt it'll ever be green lit though.

yeah TRAILER TRASH. It'll happen. It's like a pet project. Low-budget. I think it'll end up straight to DVD if it does get completed. BUt I think it's an awesome idea.

I wish he'd actually make The Majorettes-- err, Thanksgiving!

I'd still love to see a full-length Thanksgiving as well. I hope that's his next project, but Roth is always attached to projects that don't seem to get made for one reason or another.

It's a shame that Hostel 2 bombed, because it's such an improvement over the original. I tried rewatching the first film recently, and fell asleep halfway through. Neither top Cabin Fever however.

NR, Do you enjoy The Rotten Fruit shorts?

Difference is, Fight Club is entertaining. Sixth Sense is one of the most boring films I've ever seen.

Fight Club is the first DVD I ever got too!

Fight Club is super entertaining. Sixth Sense is one-time was more than enough.

Dr. Eugene, Yeah I thought the Rotten Fruit shorts were funny. I never saw Chowdaheads though. Ohh which reminds me, I heard that Roth actually directed Nation's Pride. I keep meaning to watch it on one of the bonus discs that came with Basterds.

atsonic, weirdsies on the first DVD thing!
