I love Brazil. Definitely in my top (insert number between 5 and 50 depending on my mood) films. A film with not a wasted moment; every scene is a joy to watch on its own.

And I'm not sure if it's rated enough to be overrated.

I would probably say Svankmajer is my favourite director as we seem to be going down that path.

And to go down the other path some of us seem to be travelling: David Lynch films bore me to tears.

Brazil is another film I probably need to see again, since the last time I watched it I was probably about 15. I didn't like it much then but, considering some of the bollocks I did like at that time, it definitely warrants another look.

I think Svankmajer is great but can only really take him in small doses, so I tend to prefer his short films over his feature length ones.

And in the case of Lynch, even when he seems to be going through the motions, I always find his films at least interesting.

Lynch is better than Cronenberg. But I like them both. I"d mostly agree with Adam on the Marty thing, exept I loved The Departed.

Fuck dude, I love "the Departed", maybe being from Boston helps, but that movie was exciting to me. I think Leo gets better with every movie. "Shutter Island" was waaay to predictable, but he was pretty awesome in that movie too. And Michelle Williams gets me hard.

His next flick is with Daniel Day Lewis and Benicio del Toro.

Coen Bros I think are the most consistent, only flicks of theirs I hate were "The Ladykillers" and that one with Billy Bob. I loved "A Serious Man", waaay more than I thought I would. Their next one stars Jeff Bridges, Josh Brolin and Matt Damon, it's a western, so I'm pretty stoked about that.

I don't think Scorsese has done much of any real worth probably since Casino. (Although I seem to be alone in really liking The Departed, even though I'll admit that it's not that great a movie.)

Michael Mann has sucked since "The Insider". "Public Enemies" was the most disappointing film I've ever seen. I was stoked when it came out, but besides a cool performance by Depp and awesome Otis Taylor tracks, it had NOTHING going for it.

I just watched "Fantastic Mr. Fox", it looked cool enough I suppose. But Wes Anderson has definitely dropped the ball.

Eh? It's on Criterion, in like a 4 disc set. It's got 74,000 ratings on imdb. It's a pretty popular movie.

as far as Gilliam, I WANT my films to be overly loaded, visual spectacles, with countless things on the margins for me to catch when I re-watch them.

I just can't get into his style at all. To me, it's the same criticisms leveled at Michael Bay -- big, bloated, messy, hard-to-watch (too many cuts!), silly in a BAD way -- but, omigod, Gilliam is so "surreal" so it's "okay". Haha. Even if I liked his movies, he's still an idiot, as a human being, have you guys ever read any interviews with him? Jesus.

I don't hate him outright, though, his animated sequences for Monty Python were good.

Coens once said they wanted to work in every genre. have they?

I'd go

1. No Country For Old Men
2. Fargo
3. Big Lebowski
4. Barton Fink
5. Raising Arizona
6. Miller's Crossing

I did not and do not enjoy Hudsucker Proxy. I was bored by the pointless Burn After Reading. I turnd off Oh Brother Wher art Thou

Barton Fink is my number one. It reminds me of that fucked Polanski film the Tenant. Which looking at the wiki page makes sense because it was a major influence on it.

More psychological horror.
No Country was like that as well I think.

BUt they have yet to make a true horror film. I wonder what a Coen Bros. horror film would be like? LOTS of dialogue./
