i like the NYCG+F cover; the music, not so much. the title track is great, the rest ranges from bland to kinda bad.

I like Pettibon's comic/pop art very much, but it should be pointed out that this painting--like so much other pop art, from Johns to Warhol to Lichtenstein--is actually based on an earlier photograph--a snapshot of the sister (Maureen?) of British Moors Murderess Myra Hindley circa 1965, on her way to court with her boyfriend in the back of a cab. So in a way, yeah, it is kind of fake. |

One has to admit, the original uncensored, unswitched front and back covers of Sister are pretty damn awesome, representing the chaos theory in visual terms as the ten numbers on this record represent it in musical terms.
With its collaged/juxtaposed images of Disney characters, softcore porno, '70s Americana, etc., it is reminiscent of Parisian artist Carlos Ginzburg's piece Chaos Fractal 1985-86, which was completed just a few months earlier. I would not be surprised to learn that the group had seen it at a show or in some art magazine, and taken influence from it. |
