exactly, star wars is all about as small fucking inbred aristocracy fighting for the universe.
star trek is about people who WORK together to escape death and fulfill their mission. sure, the captain shouldn't be going to EVERY dangerous mission where they could send a low-ranking officer (who the fuck is left in charge?). and sure, the enterprise could use some seatbelts so that they aren't tossed about in every explosion. wtf? but still: "Why is George Lucas peddling an elitist, anti-democratic agenda under the guise of escapist fun?" Star Wars Despots vs. Star Trek Populists ""But there's probably no better form of government than a good despot." -- George Lucas (New York Times interview, March 1999) |

Oh, look, another 23rd Century civilization that also models itself after the Roman empire and/or the Cold War. |

model airplanes?
I is confused. it's cool to love star wars but for anyone to compare it to actual science fiction is ridiculous.

It all depends upon the limits in which one defines the scope of the fiction's divorce from science fact. The fantasic elements of Star Wars is understood in terms of technology rather than supernatural terms and, in that, is a scientific adaptation of fantasy and fantasy is fiction.
In all, I really think it's unnessecarily pedantic to give a shit. Also to define science fiction in terms of scientific progress will undermine it as a literary genre as you keep punting its pioneers into fantasy. |

another? as far as i know, there were no 23rd century civilizations on TV before 1966, but you probably know better. re: the romulans-- found this wikipedia bit: The Romulans were created by Paul Schneider, who said, "it was a matter of developing a good Romanesque set of admirable antagonists...an extension of the Roman civilization to the point of space travel." what's so wrong with that? it's not like they fight with stupid light sabers... |

princess leia is from alderaan, presumably the people who adopted her were the royal family of alderaan. the rebels are fighting for the interplanetary rebuplic/democracy, not the monarchy. i don't get what you're saying is inconsistent about the end of the first movie. |

i think they've confused the boringness of star trek with intellectual superiority.

once i got dumped by a girl i absolutely loved / worshipped because I WASN4T GOOD ENOUGH IN BED.
This is a true story. Even after a few months, i was still so intimated and in awe in front of the girl's naked pure beauty, that i just couldn't get an erection. Pathetic. It took me a long time to recover from this. |
