ok just to give it a little wrap up:
Sat show at the New Musem, sold out auditorium fortunately I got in on stand-by line (I think everyone who waited got in). Highlights for me was Jim O'Rourke/Takino Makashi film, (Makashi was there and gave a little intro talk), and Robert Beatty playing to Takeshi Murata vid of geometric shapes crashing, spinning etc. Screen was huge, so sitting up front it was pretty intense. Sat night: SY set you already know about. Pedestrian Deposit for me best set of the night, maybe of the whole weekend. Amazing intensity and really creative. I'd compare it to Raionbashi and Kutzkalina set 2 years ago. Anyway they were amazing, you should check them out. Sun: Black Pus was the highlight, got the biggest response of the night (some pit action but not too much). like someone said, between gods and men there is Brian Chippendale... that's about it, can't say anything really bad about anybody it was a good weekend. btw- met Jen from the board on sunday, I was right by her on Sat, realized it from reading her post about that photographer who pushed her. ps- Im pretty sure vids from SY set will surface soon, if they havent already... |

Black Pus killed it. That guy is an endless well of awesome beats. And sick guitar riffs. Did anyone hear what he said about his "friend that comes over to jam every night, but now he just goes to bed" or some shit? Don't know if he was referencing Lightning Bolt or not. Don't quote me. There was lots of noise.
Emeralds was really cool too; a nice, concise set that had higher energy than their records. The rest of the night was pretty lame.

Skullflower, hum... yeah I'm not sure if that was Skullflower who closed. The last band was C. Spencer Yeh on violin, two guitar players whom I didn't recognize, and a girl on cello. I think they might have been members of Sunburned, but I'm not sure. They played this one long drone-y note for about 40 minutes, under harsh purple lights...
Also yeah that's terrible what happened with stolen gear. |

but skullflower generally is just bower doing his eavy rocking thing, the other members are in flux. yeh fit in perfect with the sound though, they put off a theatere of eternal music vibe. conrad schnitzlier was ok too untill they let him play for a half an hr too long.

The double whammy of Sonic Youth and Bardo Pond was killer. Overall tho the fest was a bit of a letdown.. Would've like to have attended in the hay day back in like '04/'05
Sons of God was very cool.. Skullflower was pretty cool. Bower was the dude in the blue long sleeved t-shirt FYI |

ok here is the scoop as confirmed by C. Spencer Yeh: Skullflower was Matthew Bower, Samantha Davies, and Lee "Culver" Stokoe. Spencer was sitting in at Matthew's request.

yeah i knew it was skullflower, just couldt figure out who bower was (the most clear pics ive seen of him were promos for 3rd gatekeeper when it came out)
i think bower and yeh should start a band full time, they sound like theyre made to play together. they are both shattering the boundaries between noise, drone, psych, rock, and free improvisation.

thats horrible. the reviews from this years no fun fest seem to reflect 'no fun'. not as fun as prior years anyway.
