not really. i'm more into books. gradschool was a dry period for my record shopping and i only started recently again. there are no decent shops where i live so i get most off the internet (not pirate, mailorder). however, napster was a life-saver back in the day.

I score some great shit on ebay,sometimes you can get really lucky but look out for people who price gauge on shipping.

Shipping sucks. I always wanna get something (never really can though, I have no moneyz.) that is in my price range and then the shipping is four hundred dollars because it is sent in bubble wrap, tissue paper AND a box.

I go to an independent record store mostly every Saturday.

I have a fun time getting there because I walk to the back of my backyard, cross a small creek with large rocks that form a walkway that were laid down (I suppose, by past residents) & then I climb a pretty good-sized hill through a bamboo forest on a trail (once again, that was cleared by past residents). This leads me to the back of a large movie theater & from there I walk to the other side of the shopping center to the record store.

I have repurchased many cassettes & cds in the past that became damaged or were lost or stolen. To recount all the details would take several pages of text. I'm quite sure the tales would be interesting though.

I actually enjoy buying doubles when there's a difference in the doubles. In other words, I don't buy exact duplicates. I'll buy a different mix (mono), or for a colored vinyl copy (sorry, I'm just a sucker for colored vinyl anything), and packaging (e.g., the different versions of the Beggars Banquet cover, and Sticky Fingers and Exile were packaged slightly differently between UK and US pressings early on). It's just something that makes me happy as a collector.

Ah, Virginia... I did some of my sweetest record collecting there. Back in the late 80s, there was a place in Virginia Beach called Bluebird Records (I think)--in the face of the digital revolution/onslaught, they did an excellent job of stocking new vinyl.

when my uncle died he left me all of his records (3,272 records)
couple of em are quite worth the penny on ebay but i dont ever plan on selling them

i also have 360 gigs of music.

me too. colored vinyl and picture discs.

I saw some sealed copy of a Stooges' Fun House picture disc for $22 once, and didn't buy it.

I'm still kicking myself for not spending the extra cash to get it, but it was back before I liked the Stooges. (I had the s/t but I didn't like it)

People who don't properly pack things piss me off, especially if I have paid any kind of real money for an album. I once had someone send a record inside a regular US Mail priority shipping envelope (the thin cardstock variety) with no other protection inside at all. What a moron. It's an absolute miracle that thing had no damage. I have seen things arrive basically folded in half before.

One time, I ordered some record off of ebay and they packaged it in a paper bag (like the kind they give you at the grocery store) folded and taped together.

It was a miracle that there was hardly any damage. When I picked it up, the LP itself fell out of the packaging because there was a rip in the bag by the sleave opening!

Ages ago,i read on Rockerilla(Savage Drone) of these two guys sending their recipient a mass of vinyl that you were meant to put on a frypan and shape in a round form and then play.This was in the 80s and i totally forgot the name of the band.Bless them.

Tokolosh, I was serious before about the David Lynch movie idea. It would be done The Straight Story-style sort of with your friend. At first, it would just focus on his life for about half the movie & then would turn freakish as his face is becoming disfigured starting at the eyebrow. It would conclude with the opening of the Natural History exhibit after the doctors had extracted the fetal skeleton of his twin brother.

A friend of mine (younger) introduced me to one of his friends recently who is 31 (more my age) who told me a story that would make a good cautionary/morality tale as a movie or book (maybe a book would be best). He knew this girl in high school who was salutatorian. She was a real achiever & went to Brown University (Ivy League) & then she became an attorney. She eventually became a District Attorney in a county near here. Well, she met a man that got her into drugs, cocaine & crack specifically, & it wasn't too long before she had lost her career & everything else & then went to prison for seven years, but you could show her as having a double life & seemingly getting away with it for a time. So, she gets out of prison & then starts back up on the shit. She starts stealing & also selling her body for it and story could be developed where she is quite good at conning people and so forth...stories from drug lore. Finally, she gets killed because she owes dealers too much money. If it was a movie, it'd be cool to have Art Tatum's "I Didn't Know What Time It Was" as the theme of it & of course, throw in some contemporary hip hop in there too.
