i'm enjoying so far (9 episodes as of last night) the various background stories and the skewering of business culture, which is fucking brilliant. "we need to get law books so they can work on their cases" "why would you do that...?" ah ha ha ha ha ha ha fucking human warehousing investment opportunities i know what you're thinking: betsy devoss i know what you're thinking: please keep the politics out of this thread but how can i? the tv is too good and it gets me to dream about it |

A driveway made of hash to avoid getting busted. Some of the best shit I have ever seen. Bubbles is also one of the best characters ever created...maybe just behind Ricky. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jfq3c4Cf1Fs I may just be a victim of the hype train, but I really dug this first season of Westworld. |

Yeah, Piper has a Skeletor thing going on in the face area for sure. The characters I really like are Alex, the toothless faith-healer chick (after she stops being insane), Poussé and Gloria. But sorry, you can't make me talk about Betsy DeVoss. Well, not here anyway. |

Watched most of this in a single day Wednesday. I had to get up at 4:30 to drive across half the state for an assignment, so my work day was done when I got back at about 2. Girlfriend was home sick, so we plowed right through this. Just one episode to go. So far it's my favorite season by fucking leaps and bounds. Only ONE actual rape scene! Plus it had a nice female empowerment vibe that was easier for my male with absentee father sensibilities. Still, there's some gross shit in every season of this show. Non-premium tv has gotten SUPER fucked up since I was a kid. Yowza. |

my wife has tried to watch every season of AMS, and I've tried to watch a few. We always quit before the mid-point. Just something about that show. Can never keep us into it.
She watched all the Orange seasons, I watched some random eps. She loved it. I liked it. Sev, are you talking about my girl Taryn Manning? I'm really a fan of her. I think she's a very under-appreciated actress. I'm watching season 1 of all these CW DC shows right now. I know I know, I'm watching them "out of order." Frankly, I'm sick of the whole "binging" TV shows thing. I miss when things were just on and you watched stuff when it was on. So whatever. It's wrong, but I'm happy. Arrow is... pretty good. Flash is better. Supergirl, I love. Legends Of Tomorrow feels like a slightly higher than SyFi budget take on Avengers/Guardians Of The Galaxy that feels a lot sillier than the other shows. I'm also on ep8 of Luke Cage; about to start season 2 of Gotham; and am in the middle of "volume 1" of the Batman animated series right now. Phew. Lot of stuff. Plus, re-watching Dawson's Creek w/ my wife... only like I don't know, 6 eps in?

and no i'm not trying to get you to talk about politics here. but this season takes such a critical look at the notion that "private business does it better". business has a fiduciary duty to its shareholders to maximize profit; government, however flawed, can ruled by different goals (e.g. prisoner rehabilitation, as caputo's efforts illustrate). this season is making such a great job of showing precisely that. but okay i'll stop right there. I won't.
It was different for me going into it because I was like "OMG! Taryn Manning's on this show???" I love her. So I couldn't be annoyed.

I can't watch that shit. My wife loves the Orange is new Black, but I just don't care.....
I swore off of any TV shows that dealt with police, doctors, lawyers, courts, etc as their main plot devices. I find them to be propaganda to fool the masses of sheep that the legal system, medical system, and police system are A-OK, and that they do their job, and that they save people, and that they FIGHT CRIME, but it is all BULLSHIT. I will not buy into their shit.

Baha! Yeah, of course I knew Alex was Donna from That '70s Show, even though I'm pretty sure that was the worst show of all time. It's one salvation was that it may have taught a couple people how to correctly place an apostrophe when abbreviating decades/years. And yeah I've seen Pornstache and Piper in lots of shit. Weird that it took me so long to figure out Janeway though. When that show came on, my father used to refer to her as "Captain Babeway," which baffled me but whatever. |

ha! the original babeway was gonna be this one
which i've been thinking about just now because the movie i watched last night reminded me of cronenberg's "dead ringers" a lot and found her picture previous to this anyway she wasn't as young or hot by then (cigarettes kill) but she did the pilot for voyager and it didn't work out--apparently she hated the whole business and her performance sucked (you can see that pilot in various places) and i didn't really watch the 70s show but the two main girls were pretty-- so, the actual worst show of all time has to be the fucking family guy. which has the mom from the 70s show and a spiritually bankrupt writer |

it actually looks at multiple levels of corruption and incompetence in the penal system, but in a humorous way rather than a grim documentary style. so it's a decent blend of comedy & drama & social criticism, actually. and it gets addictive for the most part. |

There's a lawyer or two in the first two seasons, but... yeah, they're not exactly portrayed in a positive light. I suppose what'shisface's (guy from American Pie) dad is ethical enough. But on the whole, the show makes it its mission to expose the flaws in the system from as many angles as possible. Nobody ISN'T corrupt. Not the cops in the flashbacks, not the prison guards or that absurd social worker with the white hair.. god I hate that guy. Especially prisons though. For-profit ones. The longer the show airs, the more the system rots, and the more that becomes clear to the few noble-ish minded people involved (like Caputo). Rob you should watch before you judge. I don't like every season equally but on the whole, I think the show is very good and also very important because of how it addresses the corruption and greed that fuels the prison-industrial complex, and how it pokes at and comments on commerce and privatization. |
