By '12th man', do yo mean the Ref? The same guy who could've easily sent off Van Bommel and De Jong in the first half and, by the letter of the law, should've sent Robben off in the second. Holland have nobody to blame for what happened tonight besides themselves. Watching them tonight made me wish that Uruguay had beaten them in the semis. At least they'd have been up for a game of football. And I say that as someone who's always had great admiration for Dutch football. Anyway, can we atleast all agree that Spain's coach bears an uncanny resemblance with a certain sitcom brasserie owner? |

Yeah, I don't think goalies are disqualified, just ignored. It's the same issue with no defender being nominated this year. I'm not even saying Casillas should've won it, but I'd say he was well worthy of making the top ten. |

yes de Jong deserved a red... aside from that, every call went to Spain. and don't try and tell me Puyol played Robben cleanly on his 2nd breakaway [the one in which he didn't get a shot off because Puyol grabbed him and wrapped his leg around him. it would've been a red too if Robben had fallen/dove]. also towards the end when the black dutch winger kept getting past CapdeVilla and getting fouled and would get not even a kick.

but dude, puyol got a yellow card for his shenanigans. so did capdevilla. watchu talking about willis? the ref was pretty lenient i think because it was a world cup final-- he dished out more warnings than cards-- sneijder got a couple, robben got one (before his yellow), so did iniesta, in situations that would have deserved a card in a different game or with different players. spain aren't saints, sure, but they only started dishing it out after 20 minutes, fed up from the punishment they were getting (that's when ramos got his card). it was a fair victory for spain, they won without help from the ref, and i think you're off mark with your criticisms of him. sure, there was a case of "yellow fever", but the cards weren't undeserved. they would have been more, but he kept warning people instead. i thought he did a nice job, considering the match he had in his hands. |

well, that wasn't exactly a classic world cup final.
it doesn't hurt as much as i thought it would. spain were clearly the better team and other than trying to disrupt their game, holland didn't have much of an answer. robben got two huge chances, which he both managed to mess up. spain got a lot more chances, but since we all know they can't score there was always the possibility... up until the 118th minute. but spain are the worthy champions. this wasn't the best dutch team i remember seeing. however, it's sad to think that i doubt i'll ever see holland get the opportunity to win the world cup again - in my lifetime at least. just like after the semi-final game vs uruguay i had a friend's birthday party to celebrate. i got home earlier this time, nobody wants to celebrate their birthday after losing a world cup fnal, right? it's been exhausting. time for bed. |
