its great although its not really a 'metal' pedal if thats exactly what you want, it can be plenty noisey and brutal though,

try one out,

Yeah, I was thinking about a Turbo Rat, but I think I want something a little more "metal" sounding.

I'm not an expert, however I've seen that you can get pretty twisted sounds out of it. Just to compare, I have the Boss Overdrive/Distortion 2, and it's horseshit against the Zone.

I have a DOD Death Metal and i like but i don't really use it in my "guitar rig setup" and i haven't tried the Boss Metal Zone for a comparison test. The DOD Death Metal pedal is a high gain distortion (VERY LOUD!) w/ scooped mids for that metal tone but it can be really noisey which is why its a standard or staple used in alot of "noise artists setups/rigs" i've read alot of positive things about it especially for the price and that in comparison to the Boss Metal Zone it is on par or even better (but i can't say that for myself).

I basically use my Death Metal pedal in my parallel "noise setup" outside my guitar effects chain. which is just a feedback loop that also includes a Danelectro Octave Distortion (French Toast?). i created a "looper/Y-box" from the shell of a broken Digitech PDS pedal that i gutted only using the 1 input jack and 2 output jacks (as to create a feedback loop one output goes to the first pedal input in my chain) its abit more complicated that just say a Y-adapter because i added 2 volume pots to control the volume (and frequency rolloff) of output 1 and output 2. so one output pot actually controls volume which is nice because often in these types of feedback loops the gain is much higher than normal gain on guitar, the other output pot manipulates the feedback frequency and volume providing a rich array of wild sounds and tones. I guess technically what i call the "looper/y box" is a glorified poor man's "stereo volume pedal". i guess if anyone is interested i can provide a schematic on this thing though i'm still trying to tweak it.

Android ring mod, how do you like that? I tried out the antenna, thought it was like a broken speaker fuzz ring mod

the android is nice, the ring mod is pretty sutble, i mostly use it for the tremolo mode, you can get some really lofi glitcy synth stuff out of it, which is great,

i had it first in my chain for ages but put it last today after a friend gave me his old reverb pedal, reverb into ring mod tremolo is good good good.

If you have a new russian big muff reissue (the black one) and know basics of soldering and ability to trace the wiring i recommend making it true by-pass because its not too difficult to do and its worth it... did it to one of mine (as i have another that i'm leaving as stock) also changed the LED from red to yellow and while i was at it i replaced that cheapo stock 9 volt battery clip that tends to fall apart. at some point replacing those awful plastic input and output jacks will be next because those are horribley cheap and are prone to cracking and breaking if the nut is overtightened. (i had to replace the input jack with a switchcraft to my other big muff because of this, though wiring it to the board was a little tricky.)

The best distortion tone I have gotten to date is from my Mesa V-Twin 3-channel tube preamp. I don't think they make them anymore (a shame), but they were in plentiful supply for many years, so finding a used one couldn't be too difficult.

For those who have a Deluxe Memory Man and want to do a mod to increase the delay time (from the stock 550msec. and doubling it to a whopping 1100msec. or 1.1sec.!) i did it using a submini spdt (or dpdt) switch to alternate between the doubled and normal settings and its pretty damn fine if you ask me, some slight distortion but i can live w/ it for my purposes! a nice mod that is a better option than tinkering w/ the trimpots and potentially putting the unit into a nonusable state without sending it out for repair.

also there is a mod that gives more speed variation on the vibrato... may or may not attempt this one as i don't really use the vibrato much on this unit.

check here:
http://germaniumsky.com/gsky/ideas2.html
refer to the photos on the right.

for the delay mod, you'll need:
a spdt or dpdt switch
wire 22 gauge or better stranded or solid/stranded combo (solid is not really recommended but can be used)
0.1 microfarad (u) capacitor (i don't recommend ceramic, use metallic/film)

only 370ms? were the trimpots adjusted? i'm really afraid of tweaking mine without having a meter to work with all it takes is a slight adjustment to make a change or make the whole unit not really work...

yeah, i matched it up with my dd20 to get the exact delay...i don't wanna fuck with the trimpots...im tempted to send it to howard davis and have him soup it up for me.

well, the mod i explained above is very simple and reversable if you want even though you can switch from the normal delay to the lengthened one, all the parts are easily obtainable even at RADIO SHACK (they are pretty horrible though). the only thing is drilling a 1/4" hole into the top of the unit which i didn't do because i used the hole where the power slider switch is because mine broke awhile ago and i just wired the power directly from the board to the jack. i guess if i were to send it out i'd have all these things done:

op amp upgrade (especially the input, to a TL072 to reduce distortion on delay)
switchable lengthened delay
switchable vibrato speeds (w/ a rotary switch)
infinity switch on the feedback knob (where you can alternate from the feedback setting to max.)
