I haven't seen many Lynch films, but here's my list anyway:
Eraserhead - 9/10
Elephant Man - 9/10
Dune - 4/10
Lost Highway - 8.5/10
Mullholland Drive - 9/10

Right, and that's always confounded me.. he started so forward-thinking, so unique, so brilliant... I guess there's nowhere to go do but down. But have you seen Straight Story? It's the best.

But like I said, Fire Walk With Me is my favorite. "So, can you tell me what the blue rose means?" "No... I can't."

"NO, WE'RE NOT GOING TO TALK ABOUT JUDY, NO WE'RE NOT GOING TO TALK ABOUT JUDY AT ALL WE'RE GOING TO LEAVE HER OUT OF IT."

Amazing!

Eraserhead just seems like the kind of movie a person makes if they don't plan on making any movies -- like, he was just going for it, because he probably thought he'd never be able to make another one. Fire Walk With Me feels kinda like a fuck-you and also a great summary of ALL of his work, so that's probably why I dig it, it's all the best elements from everything. That tv being smashed at the beginning is the best!

Agreed. Perfect. An eerie dark feeling just hovers all thru out that movie that sucks me in and enthralls me to watch it again and again.

I found that Inland Empire to spiral way out of control to fast.

Not to mention there's a good hour in Inland Empire where Laura Dern just walks around a house on a movie set and doesn't say anything.

Eh, I always thought Lynch was pretty meh. I liked Blue Velvet quite a bit. But I hated Eraserhead (though I liked the man in the planet or whatever), and Dune was just embarrassing and abysmal. He's um, ok...I guess, sometimes.

Not the best Capra film out there, but it's ok. It's pretty witty and has some quick dialogue that's fun and humorous. The story itself is a little eyerolling and predictable by today's standards. But there are some good bits in there that keep it interesting. The film is actually kind of sexist, or at the least chauvinistic. Clark Gable is kind of a dick for alot of the movie with some peppered moments of kindness. And Claudette Colbert just kind of acts like an idiot the whole movie. Nowhere near the best Capra film, but it's an alright picture for what it is.

Probably one of my least liked Bette Davis films, but it's still got some alright moments. This movie really kind of defines the 'collection of scenes' idea when it comes to movies. It really alot of time is just a bunch of moments one after another. There are a number of scenes in the film that last barely ten seconds and they're pretty numerous. The best part of the film I guess is Bette's transformation from a really ugly fat lady to a total knockout fox. Which is another thing that bothered me about the film. I felt that the film wasn't really sure what it was supposed to be about. The film starts off about Charlotte trying to libere herself from her really oppressive mom, and I would've imagined that would've been what the core of the movie could've been about, but it's really more of a subplot, it's really just kind of weird the priorities of this movie. Wow, this was long, sorry.

"Hated Eraserhead"? Uh... alright! Haha. I don't know how someone could hate the film... someone spending 5 years of their life, filming this thing only on weekends, living by the seat of their pants, putting their entire heart and soul into a film ... etc. I mean, even if it wasn't something you were a fan of, Lynch probably put more work -- and indeed, more of himself -- into the film than anyone else I can think of. It's inspiring, unique, was indeed like nothing else like it before (though, obviously, one can draw links to things like FUNERAL PROCESSION OF ROSES, EMPEROR TOMATO KETCHUP, etc... hell, even LAST YEAR AT MARIENBAND -- but there was certainly nothing like it in American underground cinema at the time). To be honest, I thought it was extremely boring and dull when I first saw it 10 years ago, but I learned to appreciate the finer details, and now I think it's one of the best films ever made.. easily.

But yeah, I mean Lynch is just a gateway to better directors, but he's still got an interesting style.

Inglorious Bastards - I missed about the first 30 min. but I found it extremely boring and all over the place. I'll critique it when I see it in full.

I'm done with film hype though.... I also saw The Hangover and thought it was the stupidest piece of shit I've ever seen. It felt like a montage of rejected material written by the writters of Friends or something. The characters were completely unlikeable and non-memorable. It had no more humor than an average TV sitcom (at best). I literally didn't laugh once and kept waiting for it to get funny, just sure it would. The only time I even remotely smiled was the parts with Mike Tyson, because he's just funny by default. It ripped off Dude Where's My Car, by DWMC was actually funny, unique and creative.... full of memorable quotes. Compared to something like SuperBad, Hangover is just embarrassing.

Too bad you missed the first 30 minutes of Inglorious Basterds, it's really important in establishng the tone, characters, and pace of the film. Don't get me wrong, the film is no masterpiece, but compared to modern mainstream American cinema, it's certainly mindblowing. A low 7/10 but still pretty decent -- too bad about Eli Roth's acting.

The Hangover was pretty bad. I didn't laugh one time. The only comedy I saw in theaters I thought was worse was Pineapple Express, which I just thought was unbelievable in its badness.
