I'm sure that when most people use the term "the wife," they mean no harm by it, and therefore they shouldn't be viewed as objectifying their mate. Still, I feel that for a society to truly advance, they need to get rid of any remnants of their former ways. You can't say that men and women are equal and then continue to use language that defies this. The effect of language on the human mind is tremendous; using this language will still trigger ideas in our subconscious and this can prevent us from truly advancing to a more enlightened state.
Wow, sorry, maybe I took this all to far

I propose that, in the context of referring to another person, so as to avoid the risk of appearring to suggest ownership or objectification, the words "the" and "my" should be scrapped and replaced with "ickle cutie pie".

I always thought internet was a footballing term. It's when a player kicks the ball internet, thus scoring a goal.

Good point. The fact that we hear that now indicates that we may not even be as advanced as many may think. Of course, this isn't a huge surprise to most of us. Quote:

so what do people think of marriage itself?
Is it an out of date concept? Or a celebration? |

heheh the whole shabang. I was against it for a long time (during my cool alternative phase) (now i'm in my moany old git phase) but i think i saw how much Em wanted to get married and realised that it'd make her more happy than it'd make me sad so we got married. I'm happy that we did, it was a great day. |

Marriage is fine if both parties feel it's what they want. It also has certain financial benefits. I tend to think it's unnecessary though when ventured into as a way of confirming a couple's commitment to one another.

I think marriage is great. I can see the pros and cons of each, but I'm glad I got married.
I do feel weird though referring to Jess even as "my wife." I usually just say Jess. I don't see the term "wife" as derogatory, just as I don't see "husband" derogatory, or "mother," "father," or "son," for that matter, but I still feel odd using the term. But hey, how 'bout them hipsters, huh?!?

I thought they did marry, but they could only give their vows by text while at opposite sides of the room at a Minus The Bear show.

The biggest drawback is all of the rice that gets caught in your ironic mustache...

hipsters don't like relationships cause they are "starving artists who feel relationships will ruin their creativity."

I don't like the term "starving artist." It makes me think of boring landscape paintings sold at flea markets.
