rather ripped is an amazing album.sonic youth are really excellent musicians there are so many melodies and guitarr licks on this record.somehow i think they should make more less experimental stuff.they are incredible songwriters.
the whole record is a masterpeace.i think you need to be a memeber of sonic youth and playing your hole life guitarr to write such songs.and steve hit the drums in such a cool subtile way. the cover is perfect to. what i donīt understand is that many other sonic youth fanīs not really like this album.i mean they make some of the best music ever and a very single group understand the big potential and quality of this record. i have no favourite sonic youth record because every realese they made was youst excellent and groundbreaking but rather ripped is the record i heard the most until now. |

It's amazing! songs like Incinerate and Pink Steam are awesome,
some bad songs are sleeping around, and do you believe in rapture, but the album as a whole is really great |

Sadly it is not an awesome album, though it has its moments it is a definite step back from the innovation of NYC G+F - Sonic Nurse period. Jim O'Rourke is definitely missed. I'm optimistic for the Matador release. More Lee songs ?

I've probably tried harder to find something in this than any other album I can think of. i still don't see it. Even when a track starts OK, such as Incinerate and Do You Believe in Rapture, and I get a resurgence of optimism, it just sinks. If this was my first exposure to SY I can honestly say that I'd not have been that keen to investigate them any further. Still, my not liking it hardly makes it a bad album.

One of three SY albums I still don't have, and I don't really feel the need to buy it.

Why don't you quit trying to buy fucking elite? It's a great album, it's different from what they did before, they can't be constantly doing the same album, they'd be AC/DC then. I love Rather Ripped for it's pretty good songs, although it keeps the noise to a minimum, it's still a pretty good and enjoyable record.
And just for you haters: I own it both on CD and vinyl. |
