I've always liked this wall too, for a lot of reasons. A lot of those advertisements are extremely old. It came very close to being destroyed last year, the building next to it when up in flames.

It's so beautiful, I can picture an Indie flick set in Omaha, with the opening scene being an E.C.U of ths wall, slowly pulling away as Jimmy Donley plays in the background.... Promise me Omaha won't tear this wall down...

Its hard to say what the future of a lot of old buildings in Omaha is. Besides being prone to fires, their new enemy is city government who is constantly knocking things down to put up new things. At the same time, many historic buildings have been remolded and renovated, made into loft apartments, art studios, and concert halls. Downtown Omaha is going through a renaissance and its quite exciting.

They've built this brand new preforming arts center (right next to that wall):

do you work at said arts venue, it is a beautiful looking concert hall and the cluster of spks apears to be meyer m1 or m2d's nice, looks great, love to see the rest of the PA

this is the one i work in, it is the best job and lots of fun, im quite lucky

Yeah, I think my aunt used to work in one of those buildings for some insurance company or something. The glass isn't THAT cool though.

I guess Omaha isn't much, but its home.

She doesn't work there anymore, and I think they moved from that area.

I rarely eat steak, and I've never gone cow-tipping. Cows galloping down my street has become a near monthly occurance though, they are ecscaping from the packing houses. It's quite funny. What isn't funny, is seeing them shot.

Where did you stay at, any place other than downtown is unacceptable.

We're less than 50 000 people in my town, 45 km from Paris, France.

The Seine runs through town, with a curve or a loop, creating an impression of void downtown.

The poor are apart, in high (French standards) buildings. A sad long enough bridge leads to that part of town. The mayor would like the population to stay where they are and keep them away from downtown. I went to school downtown 20 years ago. There were no black, no Arabs there ! From where I came (Nancy, a bigger town in the East, less than 150 kms from the German border I guess), it was shocking. Schools in the poor part, well, don't give much chances. Differents ethnies. Unemployment problems et al.

The mayor is Jean-François Copé, minister of budget in the government. He gave up his commitment as mayor to become full time minister, named his first counsellor Ange Anziani mayor & became first counsellor. As a result, they reexamined a few things together and decided that the first counsellor would earn as much as the mayor. Recently, while remaining a minister, Copé got his mayor seat back, and Anziani became first counsellor (with a high salary). More recently, Anziani got sacked from the first counsellor chair. Don't know who's the replacement, but he (or she) will earn less. Anziani got the boot cause he created an association to support Nicolas Sarkozy, minister of the interior. Sarkozy & Copé belong to the same political party, are members of the same government. Isn't it pretty?

Back to description :

Some trees in the center. One cinema, with 7 screens. One big theatre (600 seats - a play I wrote got played there). A smaller one (90 seats - where I spent 2 or 3 years). Lots of garages. No work, the young have to try to find a job at Disney (20 kms). A cathedral that ain't complete.

There's an armory across the cathedral by the way (same thing in Saint-Brieuc where I'd like to move). One protestant temple that I like better (surrounded by a school, a butcher, a baker).

Local specificities : cheese (I don't like cheese) and mustard (an excellent one, perfect for tomato salad).

the second picture? it's the bay of Arcachon, in the South-West of France...

the picture is not taken from an island (although there is an island in the middle, the "Birds' Isle"), but from one side of the bay to the other - you can see on the other side what used to be the highest dune in Europe (until they apparently discovered there was a higher dune in Lithuania... if i remember correctly...)

j'ai vécu à Nancy pendant 17 ans... la troisième photo est en fait une photo dans le centre ville de Nancy, je me souviens plus du nom de cette place d'ailleurs, je m'en rends compte maintenant...
