I'm a big fan of Nolan actually, Following is one of the greatest things ive ever seen to be honest, i also liked dark knight and yes even batman begins (im probably the only one). Inception i also havent seen.. man.. i gotta see that too!

FOLLOWING is an absolute masterpiece. Memento is cool, though there's a really stupid part near the end that makes no sense. His INSOMNIA remake is nice too.

well i've seen none of them.

btw nolan is just an idiot. he ruined inception by making it into an action movie about rich city executives and their bland world.

he should have been slapped in the face and told - do it again, but you can only use guns in a few scenes and only for a few seconds.

how amazing would that movie have been if instead of running around shooting they had to pyschologically manipulate their way through?

Well, I mean, Nolan -- the real Nolan -- is the guy who made Following, and -- to some extent -- Memento. Every other Nolan film has had some kind of studio interference and shit -- I mean, you can't make some psychological mindfuck with DiCraprio starring, no studio is going to give $200 million dollars and say "Here, make something that only like 5 people will enjoy."

That being said, I was surprised by how clever and intelligent the movie was, even when it kinda turned into a crappy action flick near the end. The movie is a bit too long, and it never quite reaches the heights of its first hour (astounding visuals like the train in the city, the manipulation of reality, and such). Still, Nolan is a studio director, working for the studio system, and the studio ultimately is what approves/gives money to/releases/etc movies, so there has to be some spin on it to make it accessible to all audiences, not just us.

It's a brilliant mainstream film, certainly the best mainstream film of the year next to Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (which did seem to cater only to a specific audience, which is why it's one of the biggest flops of all time, despite being insanely clever and brilliant)... but yeah, I definitely agree that it kinda falls apart near the end. But that didn't surprise me -- what surprised was how GREAT most of it was.

As for Stephen King's film adaptations... uhhhh... I guess Shawshank Redemption and the Dead Zone are great. The Shining isn't too bad. Surprised you didn't list any of those, Joe. Most of King film adaptations suck, though, or are just silly. THINNER is entertaining, surprisingly, they change a lot from the book. I think the Green Mile is a terrible film, so ridiculous, and MAUDLIN. How can people praise that film and insult something like (the equally godawful) Patch Adams? Both are "Feel-good" crapfests! I'll tell you one really underrated King movie, GRAVEYARD SHIFT.

I'm pretty sure I'm the only person in the world who likes this movie, but indeed I do. Great atmosphere, dark as hell... the whole film is these rednecks cleaning out this sloppy lair of rats and shit... just weird. Weird movie.

If you want to see the absolute worst in King adaptations, check out MANGLER 2

This is truly one of the worst movies ever made, though it's fucking hilarious. Yes, King didn't really have anything to do with it, just the first Mangler -- which was quite bad too -- but still. Check it out!

I was just listing off my favorite post-Shining, King adaptations. ni'k you should get around to checking at least a couple of those out. Especially Pet Sematary, which I personally like even more than The Shining.

I haven't seen the sequel to The Mangler, but I can only imagine how awful it must be. I was surprised at how bad the first one was. Stephen King, Tobe Hooper, Robert Englund... and it was dreadful! I think maybe Hooper and Englund have bad luck together, have you ever seen Night Terrors? Ugggh.

You know what I SHOULD have mentioned though?

FUCKING LAWNMOWER MAN!!

I thought it was fantastic! I do have a total soft spot for John Cusack though.

Has anyone seen Night Flier? That one has always caught my eye, but I've never gotten around to checking it out.

I always forget Lawnmower Man is a Stephen King film. Er, wait..

The plot of Stephen King's 1975 short story "The Lawnmower Man" concerns Harold Parkette, who hires "Pastoral Greenery and Outdoor Services Inc." to cut his lawn. The serviceman who arrives to do the job has a lawnmower that mows the lawn by itself while he crawls, naked, behind the mower, eating the grass. The serviceman himself is actually a satyr who worships the Greek god Pan. When Parkette tries to call the police, the mower and its owner ritually kill him as a sacrifice to Pan.
The film's original script, written by director Brett Leonard and producer Gimel Everett, was titled Cyber God and had nothing to do with King's short story. New Line Cinema held the film rights to King's story, and decided to combine Cyber God with some minor elements of King's "The Lawnmower Man". The resulting film, originally titled Stephen King's The Lawnmower Man, differed so much from the source material that King sued the filmmakers to remove his name from the title.
After two court rulings in King's favor, New Line still did not comply and initially released the home video version as Stephen King's The Lawnmower Man. A third ruling granted the author $10,000 per day in compensation and all profits derived from sales until his name was removed.[3] On King's official website, the film is not listed among the films based on his work. The Lawnmower Man was released in Japan under the title Virtual Wars; Fuji Creative's Masao Takiyama is also credited as a co-producer.
