I'm having trouble finding seeds for Jacques Duphly - 1760 Stehlin Harpsichord 24-bit FLAC -- any help, Folks? Thanks!

(My goal is to track down and download every cotton-pickin' Lou Davenport vinyl transcription for which the man made a torrent or otherwise uploaded).

I have that one, too. Here's a link to a torrent:

There's only one seeder at the moment, it seems. I can probably help seed later today when i get home from work.

Dumb question: was this (through some tenuous connection) an AGP-themed torrent as well? Duphly was an 18th century composer.

The notes included with this do not identify it as part of the Avantgarde Project.

The only relation, as far as i can tell, between the Avantgarde Project and this recording, is that it was transferred to .flac by the same person who did all the AGP transfers, and whose username at the pirate bay tracker was loudav.

Other recordings that i've got, which aren't listed as part of the AGP, but were also transferred by loudav:
  • Three works by Earle Brown
  • Paniagua -La Folia (24bit Flac)
  • Ravi Shankar, Raga Jogeshwari, 1980 (24 Bit FLAC)
I might be wrong, though.

AGP 117. This one ranks highly in my list of favorites.

IANCU DUMITRESCU

loudav's notes:

=======================================

AGP117 is a transcription of one of my most prized LPs, containing two works by the Romanian composer Iancu Dumitrescu. Medium II is for solo double bass, and Cogito / Trompe L'Oeil is for two double basses, prepared piano, and percussion.

In Medium II, the sounds produced by the double bass explore the edge between tones and noise, and yet an everpresent tonal center is provided by the notes produced by the open strings, giving the excursions into higher tones something of the feel of a raga. The rhythms of the piece remind me at times of the breathing of some great beast or of the surge of the ocean through a tidal cave. The addition of more instruments in Cogito introduces further tonal centers and still more timbral complexity, with considerably more sound energy in higher registers.

Dumitrescu describes Medium II as the hidden, mysterious reverse of Cogito, and suggests that the two works could even be played simultaneously. If you have the right media-playing software, you may be able to arrange such a performance for yourself. Personally, I tremble at the thought. The torrent includes a PDF file with scans of LPs liner notes.

I have waited until now to transcribe this LP because a CD of Medium III, Cogito, and other works used to be available on the Edition Modern label out of Romania. I am told that this CD is now out of print, though you may be able to find one of the few remaining copies through internet distributors. I have never heard the CD, and so cannot say how different Medium II is from Medium III, or how different the two performances of Cogito are. If someone who has the CD judges the two releases to be different enough, I would be delighted to include a transcription of the CD in a future AGP installment.

01 - Medium II [23:38]
02 - Cogito, Trompe L'Oeil [19:57]

Equipment used for A/D conversion: Lyra Helikon phono cartridge, Linn LP12/Lingo turntable, Linn Ittok tonearm, Audioquest LeoPard tonearm cable, PS Audio PS2 preamplifier, Kimber PBJ interconnect, M-Audio Audiophile USB A/D converter.

NOTE: To the best of my knowledge, this recording is currently out of print. If you know otherwise, please let me know ASAP, as I do not wish any artists to be deprived of the royalties that they so richly deserve.

AGP 48

TRIO INSTRUMENTAL ELECTROACOUSTIQUE

loudav's notes:

=======================================

AGP48 features the work of a French trio, all of whom play synthesizers and two of whom play violin and cello on some works. They play works by trio members as well as Philippe Mion and Bernard Parmegiani, as well as collaborative compositions. The six tracks of this installment comprise all but one of the tracks on a 2LP set on INA-GRM records. The last track, by Bernard Parmegiani, will be included in AGP49.

My personal favorite track is 05, by Philippe Mion. His sense of rhythm is reminiscent of L'Image Éconduite (AGP5), as is the fugal structure he achieves through the overlapping of reiterated sound elements with gradual development in the course of the composition. The timbres are more limited in this work, but still enjoyable.

The recording and pressing of this installment is basically flawless. The torrent includes a text file with the English language notes from the set.

Equipment used for A/D conversion: Lyra Helikon phono cartridge, Linn LP12/Lingo turntable, Linn Ittok tonearm, Audioquest LeoPard tonearm cable, PS Audio PS2 preamplifier, Kimber PBJ interconnect, M-Audio Audiophile USB A/D converter.

01 - Dufour, Reve Lisse, for 2 synthesizers and violin [12:16]
02 - Geslin, Volumetriques, for 2 synthesizers et bande spatialisee [13:23]
03 - Cuniot, Quatour, for 2 synthesizers, violin, and cello [17:53]
04 - Trio, Situation de jeu [5:06]
05 - Mion, Trois Esquisses Ouvertes, for 3 synthesizers [20:46]
06 - Trio, Situation de jeu [6:53]

NOTE: To the best of my knowledge, these recordings are currently out of print. If you know otherwise, please let me know ASAP, as I do not wish any artists to be deprived of the royalties that they so richly deserve.

Possibly one of NASA's most avant-garde projects ever, SYMPHONIES OF THE PLANETS is a five-CD set that is now out of print. Put simply, it consists of recordings made by Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 as they passed by the various planets and moons of our solar system. Although sound as we perceive it cannot travel in the vacuum of space, each planet and moon emits its own electromagnetic "signature" that can be picked up by the right instruments, and those emanations can be converted into sound and recorded onto compact discs for your listening enjoyment.

(I haven't actually used that link, I downloaded the five volumes from different blogs all over the place - this has them all in one place though)
