SpectralJ, what's your take on analog delays?
I want an MXR Carbon Copy, but costs quite a lot over here, uff... I want a delay with kinda "long" delay times, that would be a nice choice imo but I never got to try one live...
I know you're a EH freak , so perhaps you have some tips on their memory line (memory toy any good? I heard a few demos online, but my feelings are mixed on it ha ha).

_slavo_, that looks like a mindblowing effect to "experience", I'd get lost in it. I'm all about "3-4 knobs top" lately ah ahaaaaa.. I even "abandoned" the idea of getting a DL4...

Besides, every fuzz demo should start with a McLusky song riff.

I haven't tried any of the EH analog delays actually!!

I've only owned one analog delay, and it was an Arion SAD-3.

For the Memory Boy/Toy I'd listen to demos. Apparently there are problems with them having different delay times based on what the temperature is, but that's supposed to be fixed with the new one, the Deluxe Memory Boy. For about 175 USD, you get tap-tempo analog delay with ratios, and expression control over the modulation rate, modulation depth, delay time, or feedback. Also has a gain control.

Other than that, there is the Malekko 616, which is supposed to be really good sounding. I think it uses the same chip as the Deluxe Memory Boy/Memory Boy/Memory Toy/Carbon Copy. These new delays are cheap because they use Cool Audio chips, which are reproductions of older Panasonic chips which aren't made anymore. . . though supposedly the Cool Audio chips don't really sound like the Panasonic ones (which as still used, but are super expensive because you can only get new-old-stock, which is dwindling. The EHX Deluxe Memory Man has this problem, and will be gone within a couple of years because they won't have the chips anymore.)

But here's a pic of the 616:

Thanks for the inputs, much appreciated.
Yes, those malekkos are sweet sounding things.
I like the controls for the mod on top (while they're "inside" the pedal in the Carbon Copy..not that I plan to play too much with those, I need a good analog delay, no matter what added effects it has).
Problem is, they're pretty hard to find over here (and even used cost a lot more compared to usa msrp), and even considering an order from usa, shipping + import taxes would make the price go quite a lot higher (they calculate import taxes on the whole package value, item+shipping costs...damn).
Listening to demos online I like Carbon Copy and Malekko over the memory toy (which would be my EH "alternative" coz I don't want more than 3-4 knobs tops , I don't need too many features).
I should pay you to buy me stuff and send anonymous packages with fake low-value declarations......heh.

example: price on malekko's website: 149$. official malekko international (european) dealers-> only one has the 616 available, price: 151 fuckin EUROS. GLOBAL ECONOMY my balls.

Yeah. . . it sucks for us too. When I went to Europe a couple years ago I converted money to euros and felt kind of raped.

Do you get taxed on presents sent from the US? I know some countries don't tax you if it is a present.

Once that worked fine, but customs officers nowadays will check every "suspicious" package...and packages with "GIFT" declaration are the most suspicious ones .
I think I'll end up buying the Carbon Copy used, which is more reasonably priced in the used market over here, then I'll order the Malekko from the official site. 149$+int shipping is definitely a good price converted in euros, would be 121 Euros shipped, with added taxes shoud be around 150 , still cheaper than 151+shipping from frickin' euro sellers...
Then I'll keep the one I like the most and resell the other one.
Sounds like a plan to me.

Just ordered this used:

Bought this once awhile ago and returned it because i thought it sounded awful with my practice amp (a puny solid state fender) and thus didn't really give it a good chance on my fender twin reverb (unfortunate) plus it was at the going price of $150/$160... thought i'd give it another shot this time around as i ended getting it for under $100... only wish it was the original version w/o the scoop and crunch adjustments and internal trimpots, it just seems like too much to tweak for a fuzz, well it could be fun to be patient and find its "sweet spot"...

Does it make sense to use a Voodoo Lab tremolo with a bass? I can't find demos with basses, I'm afraid the low frequencies could sound like shit "tremolo-ed"...but considering it's basically a sort of volume effect I might be totally wrong...

any input will be appreciated, a guy is selling one in my city and I'm keeping an eye on the thing..

It sure is!
I've been checking both that and the older spring chicken, but prices are a bit too high (here)...

Are the knobs a little "wobbly" (is that even a word?) or do they feel sturdy enough?
I read around the web that some malekko's like the ekko616 have washers that keep knobs more firmly in place, while others are a bit more "movable" haha, I suck at expressing concepts.

p.s. if anybody has suggestions on my voodoo lab tremolo + bass question a couple posts above I'll be grateful ...

I know what you mean...they are a little wobbly...I was a bit disappointed at the price that they are plastic pots, but I guess not much else would fit, and I'm sure Malekko would be fair on doing a repair if one ever does break.

I suppose if you tend to play quite long sustained notes then it might give you some interesting results but if it's more standard short, more rhythmic notes that you play, then I just think it'll make things sound a bit all over the place, with whole notes likely to just disappear altogether in the mix. I'd say no.

I would agree from a mixing point of view, I think it would turn the bass sound to mud and because of the low freqs shifting it would make a kind of doppler effect and make it sound somewhat out of time.

I'm interested.
Thanks for the inputs on the tremolo+bass thing, I'd use it only for weird/longer sustained/semi chords-like stuff, definitely not for rhythmic dunn-du-dunn-dungs.
I might just get a cheap one to see if i like "the idea", then buy a good sounding one ha ha.
Danelecto tuna melt? mah.
I've no money so it's not an imminent dilemma.
